“The Big Sort:” Left and right are self-segregating in states across America

The article is several days old; my apologies if it’s been previously dissected here.
Obviously the topic becomes more of a reality with each passing day.
Those who believe the U.S. will eventually return to what it was a decade or two ago—and certainly pre-pandemic—need to face reality: the country is Balkanizing.
AP News
At the root of what’s transpiring is FEDERALISM—the core of the U.S. system.
The Constitution was written such that each state charts its own course.
Ironically, some are wondering if that on which the country was built will ultimately drive Americans apart.
Multiple examples of this ever-increasing polarization are depicted in the (above linked) AP write-up; but all are emblematic of what’s happening across the US.
This conservative-minded couple left California for Idaho:
On the flip side, Leah Dean and her partner have recently left Texas for Colorado:
Buckle up, folks.
And for some: Consider finding a realtor.

Americans are segregating by their politics at a rapid clip, helping fuel the greatest divide between the states in modern history.
This conservative-minded couple left California for Idaho:
quote:
Once he and his wife, Jennifer, moved to a Boise suburb last year, Tim Kohl could finally express himself.
Kohl did what the couple never dared at their previous house outside Los Angeles — the newly-retired Los Angeles police officer flew a U.S. flag and a Thin Blue Line banner representing law enforcement outside his house.
“We were scared to put it up,” Jennifer Kohl acknowledged. But the Kohls knew they had moved to the right place when neighbors complimented him on the display.
On the flip side, Leah Dean and her partner have recently left Texas for Colorado:
quote:
Leah Dean is on the opposite end of the political spectrum, but she knows how the Kohls feel. In Texas, Dean had been scared to fly an abortion rights banner outside her house. Around the time the Kohls were house-hunting in Idaho, she and her partner found a place in Denver, where their LGBTQ+ pride flag flies above the banner in front of their house that proclaims “Abortion access is a community responsibility.”
“One thing we have really found is a place to feel comfortable being ourselves,” Dean said.
Buckle up, folks.
And for some: Consider finding a realtor.

A lesbian had an abortion?
Did she get artificially inseminated just to kill a baby?
Edit: apologies if misgendering

The problem for the Right is they're occupying smaller states with disproportionate representation (by population). It wouldn't take much to swing things perpetually. If 300k Leftists on the West coast relocated to Montana, SD, ND, and Idaho, they could flip those states and get near 60 permanent votes in the Senate.

It’s beautiful. Covid started this trend and it’s only going to continue. Diversity is our weakness. We have the freedom to peacefully separate from those we share no common values with.

I am actively considering retirement spots, and this information type is highly important. If there is a regularly updated index of red/blue state trends, I would appreciate it.

It blows my mind how leftist flee leftwing areas for purple areas.
At least the right-wing guy and his wife went to an actual clear right wing state.
Colorado is not totally blue...yet the nutcase moved there all the same.

I initially read the title as “the big snort”. Thought it was going to be about Hunter.

Few states are totally one party or the other.
I don’t have any data re: Colorado.
I visit the state every few years or so, but I don’t follow their local and/or state politics.
The article, however, implies the state’s trajectory continues a leftward lean:
quote:
Witwer watched Colorado steadily swing to the left as affluent, college-educated people fled the coasts for his home state starting in the late 1990s. For two decades, it was one of the nation’s fastest-growing states, and during the Trump era it swung sharply to the left. Democrats control all statewide offices and have their largest majorities in history in the legislature, including a supermajority in the lower house.
quote:
Bret Weinstein, owner of a realty firm in Denver, said politics has become the top issue for people buying a home.
“It’s brought up in our initial conversations,” Weinstein said. “Three years ago, we didn’t have those conversations, ever.”
Now, many entering the state tell him they’re looking for a way to escape their red state — and homeowners leaving Colorado say they’re fed up with it turning blue. Even within Colorado, Weinstein said, homebuyers are picking based on politics, with some avoiding conservative areas where debates on mask mandates and curriculum has dominated school board meetings.

It's up to republicans in political positions to try to bring people to their sides. If they use a static, this is what we were in 1980, it will not work. I'd suggest bringing hispanics into the fold. Or maybe bringing us into their fold where they have a strong affinity for family, religion and work ethic. If republicans view their party as the white mans party of the Regan and Bush era, no bueno. A coalition of conservatives and conservative hispanics would be unbeatable.
For anyone who believes this is patently stupid, enjoy the balkanization.

Who in the heck puts a pro-abortion sign (or even an anti-abortion sign, for that matter) in front of their house?
Trash.
Trash.

Why? I think this is great. Split it up and let people move to the new country they want to live in and support. Honestly I don’t want or need those unemployed blue haired grifter freaks anywhere near me.

Colorado is not that different that hardcore blue states like CA, OR, WA in that if you you look at a county map, it is very red. But it’s blue in the high population areas where it really counts.
As more and more people from both coasts relocate here, the state will drift more and more left.

Imagine being so driven by a love for abortion that you seek out a place where you can be comfortable flying flags about it and wearing t-shirts proclaiming it.
The Progressive Left is a collection of the very worst humanity has to offer.

The game would change if states would choose to delegate electors based on the popular vote in each individual congressional district vs. winner takes all for the state in total.
It's the only solution that saves the country.
