Do people really think ICU visits are being faked?

No they are reporting icu bed usage like it is all directly Covid related, when that is false. Take it easy with the koolaid consumption

I bet you have really good data to be making these claims besides people questioning the mask rules on TD and 1 video of a guy melting about mask rules on Twitter. Astonishing.

The problem with opening the schools is not the kids (although there will be I’m sure tragic results among the littles). Schools become the vector that spreads the disease to households. It nullifies the isolating effects of shutdowns, WFH, and social isolation. Every time your kid sits in a close contact with 20 other likely asymptotic carriers in an ancient building with a creaky HVAC system, the chances of the disease spread goes through the roof. Little Johnny is most likely how your parents with COPD catch it. Not going to Gas ‘n Sip. Immediately closing the schools in March is likely what helped the low infection states avoid the disease prior to reopening. Once it got loose in the schools in NYC and Italy, every household had it.

Holy wall of SPECULATION!.

More speculation...

Putting people with COVID back into assisted living / long term care / nursing homes (INTENTIONALLY I might add) was probably the biggest factor to the spread in NYC.

Italy, with its aging population, multigenerational housing situation based on familial structure, Hilltop towns, compact urban areas, not closing down flights to China (Wuhan) and socialized medicine may have been the perfect storm of stupidity and ineptitude.

Friend, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do not wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of covid-19 in your community.
Well, ya got trouble, my friend, right here
I say, trouble right here in River City.

This isn't a pissing contest. People are getting very sick and dying. Maybe no one you know, but making light of the numbers doesn't change what's happening.

Heard from a Dr. at Methodist Hospital. They are out of room. We have a friend who needs a tracheotomy and cannot go to Methodist in the Med Center or Sugar Land. Literally no spots available. He would have to go out to the far suburbs like Rosenberg.

Same thing with Memorial Hermann. They are stacked up in the ICU with Covid patients and have people waiting for beds in the hallways.

The dashboard shows over 500 surge capacity ICU beds available. You should call them to let them know.

Why not 59 days? 61 days?

People overcomplicate this. If you accept the risk, live life. If you deem the risk too high based on you and your loved one's situation, stay home.

Why don’t you let me know when you find out whether all those 500 beds are staffed, or just available.

Why don't you let all of us know when Abbott and these city officials start showing us real data other than positive case spikes and muh hospitalizations.

What is the age in the new spikes, demographics, who is taking up beds, how many ICUs are because covid or other illness?

People get sick and die of the flu do you chime in those threads?

The cfr is almost literally at flu level. The death rate is dropping across the board.

People are justifiably pissed off they can't go on with their lives because of non stop fear hysteria.

Oh and btw I tested positive for covid. I'm 29 and literally had zero symptoms. People 0-60 are all in the same boat 99.9 of them.

The disconnect from reality around here will make a good study some day... probably soon after the reactor overheats after the election.

Anyway, we know a couple of things.

Greg Abbott is no liberal. He’s the most business friendly governor in the country and a big reason for the “Texas Miracle” of the past decade. He’s done this in a huge, very diverse state where Hispanics will be a plurality within 10 years. You can study up on his tireless efforts to grow the Texas economy, often to the dismay of environmentalists and other opponents, on your own time.

Hospitals in some areas are running out of beds because of the influx of COVID patients on top of the usual volume. Abbott and other state and local leaders see this as an emergency situation, which I think any reasonable person would agree with.
