That's nothing. I've had a Vietnam Veteran tell me they would find South Vietnamese who were captured by the North Vietnamese hung upside down with their dick cut off and shoved into their own mouth.
***fixed my geographical error, though it's safe to say I've heard horror stories from both of those wars.

The Japanese also did that to our soldiers during WW2.
Now it's been pretty much been scrubbed from the history books to make room for all the reasons we were wrong to use nukes.

Seems like having actual repercussions from doing awful things should impact the next folks who consider it.

You know on the subject of water boarding. I read once where it's a truly terrifying experience. Folks who have gone through it as a means of training or whatever have said that even though, intellectually you know you aren't going to be killed and you know you aren't drowning, it still doesn't diminish the terror of it and you never become desensitized to it.
I don't know if that's what it's really like or not but I would imagine it's pretty frickin' close.

Can you imagine what the 9/11 terrorists would look like if captured alive?

Not if you stop the torture when they give you the info, and promise it to be 10 times worse if what you told them turns out to be untrue.
A pair Channellocks and a pencil torch can work miracles if you need info.
I once read about a CIA guy in Vietnam.He would take a razor sharp knife, and slice the soles of their feet off in very thin layers until they talked.
