I don’t favor them in all offices but they make sense in some

On the larger scale positions they can create a stronger beauracracy

There are two sides to the coin.

1) We already have term limits. They are called elections.

2) When the system is geared toward returning incumbents to office then something needs to be done. Federal funding of elections?

Who is "we" in that sentence?

Not MAGA.

MAGA loves Tommy Tuberville even though the greed index someone posted here (I guess thinking there would only be Democrats listed as insider traders) had him second only to Nanci Pelosi in terms of making stock trades of companies directly related to committees he served on as well as overall stock performance the last few years.

And Trump has criticized bitcoins since at least as far back as 2019 as being the haven of crooked money, but in September 2024 and January 2025, he created two separate cryptocurrency companies.

Three days after being inaugurated, he signed Executive Order 14178, which relaxed regulatory oversight and changed the regulatory priority for crypto, overturning the Biden administration's enforcement-heavy approach in favor of an accommodating framework focused on promoting and supporting the digital assets industry.

And within a year, he'd made almost a billion and a half profit between those two companies.

Basically the same thing as creating and owning a bunch of weed dispensaries and then signing an EO making weed legal at the federal level.

So don't tell me MAGA cares about public servants enriching themselves, because MAGA couldn't care less about what either of those guys are doing.

It might care about DEMOCRATS enriching themselves through their public office, but they certainly don't care about MAGA politicians doing it.

And yet, they keep electing them.

The way candidates accrue campaign money makes it very difficult to dislodge a sitting rep. Take Cornyn vs Paxton here in TX. Cornyn outspent Paxton by a sizeable amount. A sitting candidate really has to fester before they get primaried out.

Not sure about federal funding elections. Seems ripe for corruption.

With regard to term limits, there are issues with candidates jumping from office to office and then there’s candidates who sell out as their term ends and then leave to take high paying lobbying jobs.

Without term limits they can sell out while still in office. See Pelosi, Haley, and hundreds of others. Also without term limits, we tend to give power to the beaureaucrats who then become more knowledgeable than the candidates. They end up running things.

So it’s not a black or white issue to me.

I think part of the solution to our electoral culture is to change lobbying laws. Implement restrictions. Also, campaign finance laws need to be addressed. The PAC’s are rampant and need to be reigned in. Accountability is badly needed.

Otherwise, a way to deal with it through elections is for voters to demand that their candidates sign promises to not take lobbying jobs and not vote on legislation that is related to funds received.

I dont like the current term limits...... dying in office.....

the is definitely a threshold where you are more of a Washington DC "resident" then a resident of the state you are supposed to represent

and that City will change a person

The problem with this is the party is going to support the incumbent giving them funds that will not be provided to others challenging them.

If we wanted a much better election system we would be banning a lot of the money that flows in our elections.

This of course will never change because the people that would have to do it would be at risk of losing.

1. The tax payer rape slush fund should be eliminated. It’s insane this exist and even crazier that the mass media has no interest in the stories.

2. Term limits placed on every position
3. Campaign money very limited
4. Harsh restrictions on lobbying and taking lobbying jobs after service.

None of these will ever happen though because Congress doesn’t want to pay for their bad behavior, they don’t want to lose any power, they aren’t giving up their money.

Essentially no way anything can be fixed.

This is not a term limit issue, it is a greed issue.

Congress was never meant to be a full time washington gig. Once congress figured out how to get rich and pay themselves it began our slow demise.

There should be no pay for congress. They should only be up in Washington for a short while for the votes on bills. (Much like states do including FL) They should only be paid for their time away from the real jobs they should have. They should not get to keep any campaign funding.

There are other measures to fix this as well.

Agreed.

Both sides of the aisle are guilty of cashing in and trump has done quite well with his pardons, rhetoric and executive actions.

His behavior with respect to crypto is shameful. He is the top protector of the USD and everyone knows that there is a strong anti USD current running through the crypto culture.
