So let me get this straight. He took preventative measures to ensure the safety of his family. Right?

Seeing the forecast for blistering cold temperatures, once in a century ice storms, he decides to protect his family and bring them to a warm climate.

What's the problem?

From an optics standpoint you send them and you stay. This just looks terrible - as your constituents deal with blackouts and busted pipes, you roll about in luxury. I dgaf, but anyone not recognizing how bad the optics are is just being partisan.

Also his neighborhood did not suffer an extended blackout.

More recently, in December, Mr. Cruz had attacked a Democrat, Mayor Stephen Adler of Austin, for taking a trip to Cabo while telling constituents to “stay home” during the pandemic.

“Hypocrites,” Mr. Cruz wrote on Twitter. “Complete and utter hypocrites.”

Guess stay home didn’t apply to him
Did he tell people to stay home or something? If he didn't, then he's not being a hypocrite.

The optics might be bad, but Ted Cruz isn’t the governor of Texas. He is a United States senator.

The United States senate has zero control or authority over Texas energy issues.

Should he be choosing to actively suffer with them?

If Abbott was going to Cancun, that would be a legit awful scandal and a betrayal of his people

Ted Cruz? What do people want him to do?

You make a good point, but optics are obviously important in politics. Even if he couldn't do anything more than say "I've talked to Governor Abbott, and we're doing everything we can... yada yada yada," I think he should have stuck around or at least stayed in the country.

It's fricking rich that the liberals now hate the player and not the game.

We gotta stop playing the left's game. They only pretend to be outraged about Cruz. They don't really care. They have no principles. They are Machiavellian manipulators. They don't believe a single thing they say.

Just tell them to shut up and go back to dunking on Cuomo.

Why have a society at all? Rich elites do what they want, screw everyone else. The Texas power grid failed because they privatized it and didn’t keep up with federal regulations. If it was connected to the rest of the country we could just send more power their way. But Texas gonna Texas.

If news report came out that Cruz left all his lights on and thermostat at 80 degrees this board would defend him.

And if he set it to 60, turned his water off and donated 10K to a shelter, people would vilify him.

Liberals are telling people to stay home/save lives. A liberal doing this would be a hypocrite. Ted Cruz isn't telling people to do that, so him doing this isn't hypocritical at all. It's a pretty simple concept.

On Monday, Senator Ted Cruz urged his constituents to “stay home,” warning that winter weather beating down on Texas could be deadly. On Tuesday, he offered a shrug emoji and pronounced the situation “not good.” Then, on Wednesday, he decamped for a Ritz-Carlton resort in sun-drenched Cancún

So yeah he did exactly that

It's great seeing Democrats feign outrage over Ted Cruz for leaving his state for 1 day over a crisis he had literally no control over while, at the same time, staying completely silent as it was revealed that Andrew Cuomo was covering up thousands of deaths that he knowingly caused.

The selective outrage by Democrats is something quite special.

While nonstop showering praise upon himself AND while the Democrat world at large as well as the whole of mainstream media nonstop showering praise upon him AND all the while devoting time and attention to a book AND all the while basically verbally abusing people asking questions of him. Oh and seemingly even dismissing the tragic nature of the nursing home deaths. Guy's a menace.

Then they got Cruz taking his family to Cancun.

What gives??
