As a taxpayer, I pay his salary and he took it to Mexico rather than spend it in the US during a pandemic when hospitality employment is at an all time low.

People are just looking for a reason to criticize, whether it's justified or not. Had he stayed in Houston, passing out blankets or whatever, he'd be accused of pandering and looking for a photo op. This whole topic is bogus.

No chance he was just dropping them off. This makes a situation that looks bad look even worse with this excuse. If Cruz wants to get all the attention that he seeks from being outspoken and out front on issues he has to expect attention like this. He is one of the most visible members of congress not someone from the 4th district of southern Iowa that thought that he didn't think this situation would occur is baffling.

He would have been better served to just say, 'Yes, I'm taking my family for a short getaway. I'm blessed to be able to do so. However, I am in constant contact with authorities and my office to see to the needs of my constituents', or some other such blather. Take the criticism head on, and tell his critics 'So what?'
