I generally am in favor of self determination. I believe that if individual states would like to secede and form their own independent countries, that they should be allowed to do so provided that they take on their share of the National Debt in doing so.

When? Back in 2008 when she was slobbing Obama's knob?

I don't recall that. I just remember seeing her on various news channels over the years and she seemed like a sane person. Over the past few years though, her writings on WSJ have been a little cuckoo.

Not really this column as I didn't read it, but just in general.

its inevitable, and probably the only way we don't completely crumble.

I think it would be a great thing, for most americans. Minorities in a region (i.e. liberals in the south) might get screwed. But they could vote with their feet.

Honestly I think the places that get screwed would be the rural south, where there are few jobs and lots of gov't handouts. This would probably have negative implications on the cities in the south.

It is inevitable.

The only question: Peaceful or bloody?

What would be best would be a loose conglomeration of independent states that were held together by mutual interests like defense and commerce.

So ready to cede the technology, financial, and entertainment hubs of the country.

Just look at the GDPs of Northern states vs Southern states.

Businesses are already moving. Break this country up along liberal and conservative lines and you'll see a lot of businesses hurrying to exit the liberal states before they get taxed or regulated into oblivion.

As far as "entertainment" goes, Hollywood and New York may be the hubs, but a lot of work is being done in places like Louisiana due to the tax credits.

What makes the US unique is the diverse nature of its states and people and its tolerance for those whom we peacefully disagree with. The strength of the country is reflected in its union. Separatism in a democracy such as our's is an admission that being in the minority is intolerable and is sign of weakness. For those who lack the fortitude to stick it out and fix our problems, you are free to move.

For tech, probably not. The big issue in tech is not gov't regulation but instead finding qualified workers. Workers want to live in these states with a better QOL.

They won't move. I can see manufacturing fleeing those liberal states though. But why would they go to the south in that scenario? mexico or china would be a better destination.

Yes, the grunt work is done in these locales but the money flows back to Hollywood, and NYC where the producers live.

BS. Separatism is an example of our democracy working peacefully if that were to happen.

I can't wait to someone thinks the income tax payers, a minority now it seems, need protection.

Well the "pockets" could simply pick up and move to a liberal state. Problem solved.

Breakup of the union is inevitable. The economic, political and social differences are so vast...I say break it up......break it up.

Seems like a good solution [breakup existing union]to me. Liberal progressives can continue to suck off the government "teat" and we Constitutional Republicans get rid of the parasites.

Have a nice day.

What if Florida decided it wanted to join with the liberal America? You would have hundreds of miles of another country dividing it from the rest of its home nation.

We already have that with Alaska. Also with Hawai'i being separated by thousands of miles of ocean.

ETA: Late again
