Argentina just gave it's debtors a big up theirs. What happens when Texas does the same?

You could always spend billions on invasion and occupation.

The cost of collection might exceed the collected amount.

Might?

I wouldn't rule out what remains of FedGov doing that. The only problem is that we have the F-35 and V-22 plants.

With as large as the government is, and with the general direction of surveillance, as well as the interdependence of states on other regions for goods, breaking up into separate countries is both extremely unlikely, barring massive collapse of the government, and makes little economic sense, which I think would be the main reason for succession. Very few states would have the resources to be entirely independent. And if such a thing were to happen it would almost assuredly be bloody. No entity, especially with the military might of the U.S., would give up power willingly, in my estimation, unless there were other pressures there.

This should be allowed and every state should get a vote on who they would choose to make a union with.

After the split each nation would be given the percentage of debt according to the number of people that their nation has, if the Le Blues have 45 pecent of the peoples they owe 45 percent of the 18 trillion dollar debt.

I bet the Red states get their budget balanced, have a surpluss and get their debt paid off within 15 years.

You have 5 years to move to either country you wish to live in, after that you have to go through a normal citizenship application.

The Reagan Reds will pass legislation in the first year cutting off welfare for the able bodied, and foodstamps also. The lazy bastards will move to Le Blue along with all the perverts and drug dealers because any drug crime will be very harsh, after we close the border in Texas.

What would be best would be a loose conglomeration of independent states that were held together by mutual interests like defense and commerce.

Just divide Red or Blue states and divide on a percentage basis and let it happen. We'll take the Reagan states and they can have the Obama states and cities like Detroit and Chicago. We'll take Dallas. Easy.
