Anyone know what happened to cause a fire to erupt at the Kabul airport?
I haven't seen a cause. It has been reported by multiple outlets, though. I don't know about the timeframe of it in regards to the firefight that also occurred. They could be linked.

Any updates on iHome?
I’m sure it has been addressed, but I only follow this thread periodically.
His wife said "they" are on their way home but I have not spoken to him directly. She texted the sentence and ended with a smiley face so take that for what you will.
I haven't spoken to him yet. I will let you know as soon as I do.

More from your article…

Ministers have warned that Britain will have to tear up its foreign policy after the debacle in Afghanistan, amid flaring tempers about America’s decision to cut and run.
Tony Blair branded Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw “imbecilic”, while cabinet insiders suggested the president was “gaga” and “doolally” for withdrawing so fast.

A person from Afghanistan on the UK's no-fly watchlist has been flown into Birmingham as part of the British evacuation operation in a potential security breach, Sky News can reveal.
quote:
The individual, who is not being identified by the government, is understood to have reached UK soil on a British military plane, with officials being alerted "overnight".
The "no-fly watchlist" is designed to block individuals who are considered a security threat from reaching the UK.
The government will not say if the individual has been detained. If they pose a threat, the UK government will not now be able to return them to Afghanistan after Britain suspended flights.
The news of the Birmingham case emerged at a briefing for MPs by ministers and officials today.

I had a bad feeling we were going to see this. I am sure there are going to be quite a few No-fly watchlist people making it into countries.

Jen Psaki: “It’s irresponsible to say that Americans are stranded. They are not. We’re committed to bringing Americans who do WANT to come home home.”
I hate to think this, but I’m thinking next Tuesday when we likely leave they’re going to blame the Americans over there for that and that they don’t WANT to come home. Remember when we wanted empathy back in the White House? This is more heartless and callous than anything Trump did or said.

LONDON, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Iran resumed fuel exports to Afghanistan a few days ago following a request from the new Afghan government, which feels empowered by the U.S. withdrawal to buy the sanctioned nation's oil more openly, an Iranian official told Reuters.
quote:
The price of gasoline in Afghanistan reached $900 per tonne as many Afghans drove out of cities, fearing reprisals and a return to a harsh version of Islamic law the Taliban imposed when in power two decades ago.
To counter the price spike, the new Taliban asked Shi'ite Iran to keep the borders open for traders.
quote:
The Taliban sent messages to Iranian traders and to an Iranian chamber of commerce, which has close links to the government.
As a result, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), which is a part of the government, lifted a ban on fuel exports to Afghanistan, which had been in place since Aug. 6 because of Iran's concerns about the safety of trading in the country.
Those concerns have been eased by the Taliban's attitude, Hosseini said.
quote:
He also cited the Taliban's decision to cut tariffs on imports of fuel from Iran and other neighbouring countries and shared with Reuters an official document issued by Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan - the name by which the Taliban refers to itself.
The document specified a 70% discount on tariffs on imports of gasoline, diesel and LPG from the neighbouring countries to Afghanistan.

Well, they definitely have plenty of cherry equipment to barter for fuel and supplies too

Afghanistan could start to run out of food by September, UN warns

Source: The Guardian
quote:
UN agencies have warned of food shortages to Afghanistan as early as September without urgent aid funding, as it emerged first aid supplies, including surgical equipment and severe malnutrition kits, were stuck due to restrictions at Kabul airport.
quote:
At the beginning of 2021, a third of the country’s population was facing crisis and emergency levels of food insecurity, and half of all children under five were malnourished.
quote:
About 40% of Afghanistan’s crops were lost to drought this year, according to the WFP, and the socioeconomic impact of Covid has left essential food out of reach for many families. Wheat prices are 24% above the five-year average.
The UN humanitarian response plan is only 38.7% funded, leaving a shortfall of $800m.

Too bad Biden did not say anything about the Afghan soldier who was killed protecting his fellow afghanis and American soldiers.
Seemed he had the will to fight.

I’m thinking China in the short term will foot that bill to show that they’re there for them and not the Americans. That will probably only last a year or so, but that’s what I think they’ll do.

If trump was in office, how many days ago would the impeachment papers be drawn up?
