The airport is completely shut down so right now the only way to establish order would be to send in another 10-15k parachuters into Kabul ASAP

Per the Daily Mail there are over 10,000 US Citizens stranded and there have been some casualties in this group. Don't know how many as the situation is very fluid right now

The overall withdrawal isn't the issue here. The fine detail planning is what has dickered everything.

Wouldnt something this dire normally cause news stations to break into live coverage?
I see it mentioned during normal news times but I think the live-breaking folks took the weekend off or something.

Which means it is no longer an Embassy, and it is no longer operational. It also means any Afghans who worked for us and are at risk who aren't at the Embassy or already out are fricked.

Withdrawing isn't the issue. Should have been done earlier, if anything. The issue is HOW it's being done. Everyone, including the people advising Biden knew the ANA would fold like a cheap lawn chair and the Taliban would be on the move. But Joe said do it anyway. Pull out all of the security forces and let the desk jockeys try and survive on their own. Awesome plan...

Don't forget the part where it was done in the middle of the night without even telling the Afghan military and government leaders.
That tends to shake your faith in your allies, and more importantly greatly increases the faith in your enemies that they are now free to do whatever they wish without reprisal.
