Lane Kiffin Says LSU’s Injuries Are Starting To Add Up After Texas A&M Win

LSU beat Texas A&M 35-6 on Saturday night, but Lane Kiffin left the game concerned about the Tigers’ growing injury list.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt played through a hamstring injury that limited his ability to run. Kiffin said he considered taking Leavitt out, but the quarterback insisted on staying in.

“I joked to him it was the best thing that happened because he had to stay in the pocket and throw on time because he knew he couldn’t run,” Kiffin said. “But really gutsy performance by him. I was actually getting ready to take him out and he said no way was he coming out. He was going to play through it.”

Starting linebacker Whit Weeks also left Saturday’s game with a right foot injury. He was later seen wearing a walking boot and using crutches. Kiffin said he did not have an update on Weeks after the game.

LSU was already playing without safety Dashawn Spears and tight end Trey’Dez Green. Kiffin praised the players who stepped in for them, but acknowledged that the losses could become harder to overcome.

“I’ve not been around this many significant injuries early in the year like this. It’s really unfortunate. The good thing was guys stepped up and played in place of really significant players, with Spears and Trey’Dez being out, and now with Whit. I don’t have any update on that, but obviously it didn’t look good when he walked off.

"You know, those things are going to catch up to you. I don’t care what plays you draw up.”
