Well the entire Taliban is out of the mountains, most probably in Kabul. If there was ever a chance to get them in the open we have done that now.

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

I guess they are keeping air support in the area in case the Taliban start to get to close to the airport
The Taliban has the airport surrounded. Last I heard, they pretty much had control of the civilian terminal. They are basically just letting us operate to get our people out.

Commercialized tragedy. It’s weird. Saw this on Twitter. Not sure if true or satire

SEAN HANNITY (HOST): How would you like to be in Kabul today, as an American, and you can't get to the airport? Where are you thinking your life is headed? If you're one of those family members, I bet you're not sleeping. I don't even think My Pillow can do it. MyPillow.com. That's where I go. I fall asleep faster, I stay asleep longer. These are going to be a lot of sleepless nights for so many of our fellow Americans. We've got to get them home.

WASHINGTON—The Biden administration last week canceled bulk shipments of dollars headed for Afghanistan as Taliban fighters were poised to take control of the capital city of Kabul, part of a continuing scramble to keep hundreds of millions of dollars out of the hands of the terrorist group, according to people familiar with the matter.
The U.S. is also blocking Taliban access to government accounts managed by the Federal Reserve and other U.S. banks and working to prevent the group’s access to nearly half-billion dollars-worth of reserves at the International Monetary Fund, according to those people.
The actions represent the last vestiges of diplomatic leverage Washington hopes will help prevent a deepening political and humanitarian crisis.

From what I understand, once an aircraft lands on the single runway, it can either turn to the "civilian" side or the "military" side. Sounds like the Taliban ha e the airport surrounded and actually have checkpoints setup to all the entrances from the outside. Basically controlling who goes in. And our guys have set up a perimeter on the "military" side to operate from. If you go to the airport, the Taliban basically gets to decide if they let you go over to the American side or not.
They have complete control of the entire city. Therefore, control of the airport as well.
