Well if for some reason the Taliban devcided to take the airport

As it’s been stated here many times they won’t. It’s much more beneficial for the Taliban to let us leave rather than giving the US a reason to attack

How? They’re all over the city that is enveloped in chaos. Some Afghanis do not give a flying frick about what the Taliban want and will just kill and rape as they please and take it out on Americans they find. I’m praying I’m wrong, but I don’t see the rational option at this point for all our citizens to make it back alive.

We have enough military force deployed in Kabul now to do whatever is necessary to conduct a successful evacuation. The only thing the Taliban can do is prevent people from ever getting to the airport.

IMHO, the US military won't be conducting any "rescue" ops to bring people from various parts of Kabul to the airport.

Why do you write Afghanistan “A-ghan” ?

Because that's what the high-speed and low-drag Paratroopers call it. Would you prefer I just call it "The Ghan"?

It’s a terrifying situation but we are starting to get reports back from people who made their way to the airport unharmed. The Taliban really might let the Americans go home and they are policing the streets so Americans have a shot of getting there with getting raped or killed.

Now, how long that will last? If I’m there, I’m making a break for it.

Arrested in Pakistan in 2010, Baradar was kept in custody until pressure from the United States saw him freed in 2018 and relocated to Qatar. This is where he was appointed head of the Taliban's political office and oversaw the signing of the withdrawal agreement with the Americans.

It’s just a tricky situation that aircraft and other technology have created in regards to these massive ships. They cost a fortune and take years to build and can now be destroyed by aircraft that costs a small fraction of the costs. Dan Carlin discusses it in one of his podcasts on the war in the Pacific

I fully admit modern naval tactics are not my wheelhouse.

Now historical naval stuff I can talk all day. Even dreadnaught era, but these modern ones I just haven’t studied.

I know our navy is massive, massively expensive and high tech.

But if it can be defeated with low tech and (relatively) low cost stuff…well, maybe we should go back to the drawing board.

That, or figure out our new role on the world stage.

Force projection only works (and is worth the effort) if people think you’ll use it. A billion dollar threat is worthless if your enemy doesn’t think you’ll pull the trigger.

#BREAKING: #Taliban released a video showing moment of arrival of its leader Mullah Baradar at #Kandahar. He arrived on-board A7-MAP, a C-17A of #Qatar Air Force. His arrival onboard the airplane is symbolic because #Qatar is behind all the chaos taking place in #Afghanistan now.

Thats good news. I just heard from my Spec Ops son in Kabul (12:30am Kabul time) just a simple text but that he is OK and can't talk.

It seems relatively stable which is good news. No thanks to Bidunce.

I am so happy to hear that. I’ve been thinking about him, praying for his safety, and for you and the rest of his family.
