The Taliban and US have reached a deal to ensure that evacuations from Kabul's airport can take place without interference from the group according the AP.

Any word on American casualties?

There will be 10K Americans + 7K Troops then you include our allies. It's probably around 20K folks?
How do the last guys get out? As soon as they leave their positions defending the line, what's to keep the airport from being overwhelmed? A bunch of helicopters to jump onto and then midair refueling to get to a friendly spot? Helicopters don't typically have huge range.

We probably shouldn't use that 10k number anymore. We've had ongoing evacs since this time(ish) yesterday. We don't know the actual number, but it certainly isn't 10k now.

I assume you'll have to have a combination of attack and transport helicopters to coordinate that

Imagine needing close to 7K troops to secure one airport that has two terminal buildings (domestic/international), a few hangers, seven helipads and one runway.
It's definitely to give us all the options necessary if needed.

Reports that third 82nd BCT was just activated for Kabul deployment along with elements of 10th Mountain.

I don't think that AC-130s or A-10s will be used so close to civilians.
Posted on 8/16/21 at 1:10 pm to UASports23
Unfortunately, there's going to be at least 1 major US military mass casualty event
Posted on 8/16/21 at 1:12 pm to MrLSU
NBC reports the Taliban has "taken over the civilian side of the airport" while the U.S. military is evacuating from the military side.
People are escaping to the Military side of the airport now

I just hope either we shut this shite down or we are out of there prior to the 20th anniversary of 9/11 or some shite could definitely go down.

Seeing all those people holding onto that plan for dear life onto the outside of the plane as it tries to take off is disturbing.

Especially when you consider they are all dead regardless of what happens as they would freeze to death or not get enough oxygen.
