Found the guy that just reads the headlines.
Look at the margin in the primary. A last minute endorsement does not explain the margin of victory. The guy he beat was long considered vulnerable because of how the incumbent voted.
People claim Paxton is a criminal because he was charged, not because he was convicted. He wasn’t. The charging body dropped the charge before trial. It wasn’t an open and shut case. It took 10 years of sorting through legal arguments for the case to be dropped.
In his private business, he engaged in a private business deal. He was a lawyer and was paid a commission by a company to recruit investors. It is not illegal for anyone to do that and also not illegal to do it as a state representative. It was only argued that it was against the law because his compensation was not disclosed to the investors.
That’s it. It’s the only act that leads politically motivated journalists to call him a criminal. Unfortunately there’s no shortage of dull minded enthusiasts of political content who find it easier to just be spoon fed talking points.
