I’ve watched several of the debates and I view most of them as draws. This one was not.

By any honest standard, that was a KO by Collins.

She came across as serious, independent, thoughtful, measured, careful, experienced.

He came across as silly, a Marxist clone with an empty head, mistake prone, and frankly, stupid.

He pushed a bunch of conspiracy theory type talking points to which she dismissed as nonsense and did so in a very sincere way.

He repeated numerous attempts at painting her as a Trump rubber stamp, citing a survey that she voted with Trump 93% of the time. She called him out on it, pointing out how the survey was a partisan hack study that cherry picked votes and ignored others. She was open, saying her total votes supported Trump’s agenda 71% of the time. She said:

“I’ve worked with five presidents. I’ve supported them when I could and I’ve not supported them when I believed it was necessary. I’ve always tried to be an independent voice. As for being a rubber stamp, I actually voted to impeach President Trump. I don’t believe anyone would think it’s honest to say that I am a rubber stamp for Trump.”

Troy Jackson has zero charisma and persuasion. I fully understand why he married a family member.

As for Collins, some purists will refuse to support her because of her impeachment vote or her measured approach to abortion or some other issue. For me, I understand the realities on the ground in Maine and I’ll take 71% support any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Here’s the debate:

When one of the Bobsey Twins of Feckless RINOs makes someone look silly, you know they're a wretched Commie.

He is undoubtedly the weakest of the Democrat Senate candidates.

He’s not even a convincing socialist.

Either debates don’t matter or the markets are entirely unconvinced by whatever it is you think you saw last night. Or both.

They haven’t budged towards her.

At least Platner would have made a more entertaining debate.

Lol. Wut?

She may never recover from the road salt comment or responding to being called out for having taxpayer funded health-care for the last 30 plus years by saying "I'll have you know that I went nearly a year without health insurance in 1994".

Well, I think it may be a little early to know the effects.

The “markets,” as you say, aren’t the people voting.

I do not like Susan Collins. However, I would much much prefer her in Maine than Tom Tillis in North Carolina or John cornyn in Texas!

Platner sounds like he hopped off a train from Ottawa.

Hopefully yall aren’t falling back into the trusting women camp. Some (90%) of them need to go.

I completely understand Susan Collins because I understand Maine.

Tillis in North Carolina, Cornyn in Texas, and Murk in Alaska are unacceptable.

Love her or hate her it's hard to argue with her assertion she's independent.

Most realists are fine with Collins, being that she is in Maine. And has a tendency to come to our side and is willing to work. She is way better than Murkowski, who is just a Democrat.

I wish we could find more Collins type canidates in other blueish states like Virginia, Colorado, etc that may be able to win.

We don’t really need them to be rock ribbed conservatives… we just need them to caucus with us… and not be insane radical Democrats

It’s the RINOs in deep red states like Thune that is unacceptable

Susan Collins is the last hope of Republicans in Maine and if you don't like her, you need to understand the R there is more important than any "she votes with Dems sometimes" argument.

We need her.

insane considering it's Alaska and voters tried to fix that rank choice bullshite but the Dems rigged that too so it stayed.

Unbelievable we all sat on our hands and watched the fraud in real time as they kept counting votes for weeks until they had enough to overturn that election result.

Yum yum eat up. We just accept cheating and do nothing about it.

BINGO!!!!

These people who will not vote for a conservative of any stripe if they disagree with any one action the conservative has made piss me off more than die-hare democrats -

There is no such thing as a perfect politician - certainly IF you are avidly seeking ANY disconnect with current 'public opinion' and actions that occurred years, even decades ago.

Nobody is perfect - but there are some who are inarguably evil = what I do is always vote against the grossest evil. That choice may be someone I don't particularly like personally - as in Trump.

I would not want him as a neighbor but I will vote for him in place of any other politician on the face of the earth right now. He has performed so far above my expectations that I am beginning to actually like him personally.

THIS needs to be carved in stone at every polling place and required for every person to read it before voting.

That sounds more hopeful than realistic.

Markets of this nature always react quickly to new MEANINGFUL information. Think, star qb goes down w an injury and the odds quickly swing.

Far more likely last night didn’t matter and/or you totally misunderstood what you saw.
