I don't think it even requires being shipped to a FFL anymore. They're no longer a NFA item. SBR/SBSs still fall under NFA rules though.
ETA: Could be wrong about the FFL thing though. Still trying to find clarification on that one.

I wish I had better news about that one. The GCA 1968 still has a shush tube listed as a firearm. So the background check is still in effect.
Also, with them listed as a firearm USPS cannot ship them. UPS and FedEx will only ship them to an FFL as "firearms".

If someone is in my home uninvited, it’s safe to assume they wish to cause harm to me and/or my possessions.

This. Some of yall don’t understand just how loud guns are in a tight space. You may fire off some shots and then be completely deaf trying to hear the bad guys in the dark. I’d prefer suppressing the gun in a perfect world so I would be able to hear after firing shots.

I want it loud, and I’d lean towards weapons that won’t carry into my neighbors’ houses, like a shotgun. I can’t suppress that, but I can shorten the barrel.

I can see a use case for one in home defense. Specifically to preserve your hearing so you can audibly detect whether you're engaging a single or multiple targets.

As a former CQB instructor I would suggest a pump action shotgun if you want to be loud and proud. From a pure tactical standpoint give me a suppressor. I have the benefit of know my ground and my opponent will have a difficult time identifying my location visually or audibly. By the time they can, I will likely have eliminated any threat.

300BLK really shines in this setup. I used to load my 44mag lever gun with 44SPC for home defense. 300BLK loaded out with subs is the weapon now. With a can, it is so quiet you can hear the BCG operate.

Same thing for the bad guy. Not sure why being loud would have extra effect while he's eating 220 grain 30 caliber projectiles.

Depends on what you are shooting. To get real suppression of sound, you have to shoot sun sonic cartridges. Do you want to lighten your load in a self defense/home defense weapon? I sub sonic in a .357Magnum is probably not even available I would bet. So I am not in the suppressor camp. I bought a small one to shoot raccoons at night with sub sonic .22. Personally, I have a Mossberg Home Defender. No choke 12 gauge with 3 inch #2/3 stacked shells. Might be more than one of them.
