Recruits entering the Army are reportedly more out of shape than they've ever been, costing the branch millions of dollars as it attempts to overcome its worst recruiting crisis in decades.

A study in the Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases journal found the increased prevalence of unfit Army recruits has led to an alarming rate of injuries to soldiers going through their initial entry training, presenting another issue for a branch already having difficulty finding enough recruits to fill the ranks.

The research, which studied trainees entering the Army during fiscal year 2017, found the nearly 35% of initial-entry trainees suffered at least one musculoskeletal injury during training. The problem was most pronounced among women, with 62% of female trainees suffering a musculoskeletal injury compared to 32% of male recruits.

Maybe they shouldn’t be finding ways to chase off all the normal recruits if they are having these kinds of issues with the ones who identify as a dolphin.

I think we can all agree that making training easier and blaming the evil white men that came up with it is the answer

Who cares if they are out of shape as long as they are diverse?

That's the goal right?

Army expands program for recruits who don't meet weight and test requirements as recruiting crisis deepens

quote:

An initial pilot for the program at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in August was open to recruits who had 6% more body fat than Army standards or had scored between 21 and 30 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test. Now, the Army will launch four additional companies, two of which will be at Fort Jackson and another two at Fort Benning, Georgia, allowing room for 2,000 additional recruits per year at Fort Jackson and a total of 6,400 recruits per year at Fort Benning. "The Future Soldier Prep Course is giving young Americans who want to serve the chance to do so by helping them not only meet our standards but, in many cases, rise above them," Gen. James McConville, the Army's top officer, said of the expanded program, according to a Military.com report Monday.

quote:

Recruits have 90 days to boost their test scores or lose enough body fat to be considered compliant with Army standards and ship off to basic training, with 2,965 of the 3,206 students that have participated so far successfully completing the course.

Just a reflection of society: soft, fat and ineffective.

Someone who analyzed FMJ came away with the conclusion that Pyle was only ever sent to Marine basic training because the government did away with their old metrics which said only certain percentages of potential soldiers could actually turn into quality recruits. That was a real movement around that time due to the government getting desperate for recruits as Vietnam heated up.

The armed services are no longer welcoming to applicants with conservative views, and they have made that obvious to all. I know I would not affiliate with any organization that was predisposed to viewing me to be a likely domestic terrorist.

Combine the physical issues with recruit's mental health and acuity and you've got a real cluster.
