FWIW, many politicians use the term Veteran to make the public think that they served in combat when they never left the USA. That is something most have no control over and honorable whether deployed or not.

There are plenty of ways to get out of deployments and plenty of ways to get deployed.

I work with a guy who was in a low density MOS from 1999-2018 and he only spent 7 months in a combat theater, and that was sitting on the FOB. There's even more ways to not deploy if you're a female.

The ARFORGEN horse blanket is easy to find. If you see a BCT on it, call your branch manager and transfer into that unit. Really the only thing stopping that is not being ABN or AASLT qualified if it is the 82d, 101st, 173d, or 2-11 deploying, and that's not really a deal breaker. Bergdhal wasn't ABN qualified but deployed with an ABN unit.

On the National Guard side of things, Tour of Duty had listings for deployments on them all the time if you didn't like sitting at the armory every month and the summer trip to Camp Blanding or wherever.

Soldiers that want to deploy find ways to get downrange. Soldiers who want to get out of deployments can almost always find ways to get out of deployments, or get "deployed" to Italy instead of Iraq or wherever.

Absolutely could not agree more. Marshall was by far the best choice, with a proven record as Alabama AG.

I stand corrected but I don't like the idea of using the term to insinuate would were in firefights against the enemy. Enlisting or receiving a commission is honorable enough.

FTR, dad who served from before WWII when they sank German subs and capture a German freighter before we were in it took offense to someone calling themselves a veteran without having been shot at.

soldiers who contracted for OCS, ROTC, or HS juniors (split option) who only attended and completed basic training were not issued DD 214s at that time.

Give him the same treatment that was given to Tim Walz. No mercy.
