The problem with Jindal is that he didn’t Govern anything in Louisiana in his second term. He was more interested in being the Governor of Iowa.

That's not even close to true. Yes he used too much one-time money in the budget.

But in the second term he:
-enacted a series of education reforms including needed tenure reform. That alone is impressive.
-ELIMINATED THE CHARITY HOSPITAL SYSTEM something everyone knew was needed but didn't even think was possible.

His second term was huge.

But the use of one time money combined with the plunge in oil prices (and the media shaping the narrative) means he is disregarded by most that don't care to know the details.

Besides JBE, are there any statewide Democrats?

If JBE was really a Democrat this would actually be true.

very wise tzimme4. Comrade Honor Code was the most left wing legislator in Louisiana with the possible exception of Sam Jones.

It was a cynical ploy that he thought would cover up budget troubles long enough for him to get out of town for a Presidential run and it didn’t work.

I remember this happening and while those are laudable as hell, those are just mere drops in the bucket compared to what we really needed and still need today.

I don’t need the media or falling oil prices to know that Jindal abandoned this state chasing pie in the sky Presidential dreams and he left office as an absolute disgrace over it.

There’s no sugarcoating it.

If Steve Scalise really wants this to happen, he needs to work hard to deliver his District to the GOP candidate.

Everyone is blaming Edwards for a tax hike. Remember the Governor can only sign bills, he can't pass them. I'm a die hard republican, but the republicans had to be the ones to pass the bill, Not Edwards.

What did you want him to do? Raise taxes?

The effect of this was, every hospital in the state became essentially a charity hospital.

The system was a bloated mess, sure. I don’t know that the alternative improved anything and arguably made a lot of things worse.

And what happened to Jindal? He vanished from the scene. Must have been fricking kids and they have it on video.

The governor makes a budget, he frames the debate, he puts in which items he chooses, and dares the legislature to cut them out unless they want to take the heat from some special interest group.

The legislature can whittle on it some, but the governor has enormous influence in the legislature, and he controls the debate because he is one while the legislature are many.

With all that said, Edwards asked for more tax increases than he got, the result being somewhat of a compromise and at the end over 300 million dollars LESS than Edwards wanted.
