WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group of about a dozen U.S. State Department officials have taken the unusual step of formally accusing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of violating a federal law designed to stop foreign militaries from enlisting child soldiers, according to internal government documents reviewed by Reuters.

quote:

A confidential State Department “dissent” memo not previously reported said Tillerson breached the Child Soldiers Prevention Act when he decided in June to exclude Iraq, Myanmar, and Afghanistan from a U.S. list of offenders in the use of child soldiers. This was despite the department publicly acknowledging that children were being conscripted in those countries.

tillerson has been surprising to me as SoS. I thought he was going to be an embarassment of a failure, but he has been adequate.

This seems like much ado about nothing.

I wonder if they were revolting when Hillary ignored the same law.

Look... glad you're coming around, but why would you even think that a former CEO and highly accomplished engineer of one of the largest multi-national and wealthiest companies in the world would be "an embarrassment"? What do people think a CEO of that type of global organization goes? Sit in their office and count money? My employer is international but 1/5 the size of ExxonMobil, and our CEO is very well connected.

Same with Trump... People seem amazed that he doesn't ask foreign dignitaries to pull his finger, as if he hasn't spend his entire professional life dealing with dignitaries and foreign leaders.

YET... Obozo, an absolutely unaccomplished NOBODY prior to winning the presidency... no one questioned how he would do on the international stage. And look what happened. We got screwed by every country on the globe like a Time Square hooker.

Good to see these people outed themselves.

Now place them on national security assignments in Barrow, Alaska.

I hear there's some openings in the Cuba Embassy.

Maybe they'd enjoy Turkey this time of year?

The child soldiers law passed in 2008 states that the U.S. government must be satisfied that no children under the age of 18 “are recruited, conscripted or otherwise compelled to serve as child soldiers" for a country to be removed from the list.

My father had to sign paperwork to release me for MEPS processing at 17. The minimum age for enlistment in the military in the UK is 16.

So we can let people enlist at 16 and 17 but the rest of the world can't? Another bullshite story.

The US State department would rather those children be used for sex trafficking?

And now Tillerson has cause to fire these Deep State pawns. He will easily find situations where they failed to raise any issues with Hillary's actions. He will destroy them for a lack of integrity and impartiality, and they will be sent through the administrative process and fired. It'll go to court and Tillerson will win because the courts will defer to his decision making and there will be nothing arbitrary or capricious about such a decision.

Congrats to the Dems and the Deep State! You continue to get played.

Very true but the liberals turn a blind eye towards the transgressions of their own.
