yes, especially over guns

every government in history that did atrocities to its own people made sure those people were unarmed

The problem isn't with the federal government seizing arms, it's with state and local governments trying to do so. While I understand the sentiment behind it, doing something like this tells me those voting for it aren't really paying attention to where actual attempts at confiscation are happening.

It would have been far better to pass a law stating that no state agency nor agency of a municipality may confiscate legally obtained firearms from owners that have not broken a law.

So you're saying that SC legislation seeks to secede from itself, or start an intrastate civil war???

No idea how you got that from what I wrote. I'm saying it would have been far more productive for them to craft legislation aimed at keeping municipalities and/or state agencies from trying to seize weapons (since that's the level the anti-2A people are working at) instead of focusing on what they will do if the federal government tries it (which they haven't, again it's been primarily on the local level where you see this activity).

Late this week, a group of Republican lawmakers in South Carolina introduced a bill that would allow the state to secede from the United States if the federal government violated the Second Amendment.

And here we go again.

Globalists vs. State sovereignty.

Fed's and CIA vs. locals.

South Carolina fixing to be 0 - 2.

Why do liberals say things like this?
If a red state is interested in ruling themselves, why would you want to stop them?
Non-Texans claim to loathe Texas, yet so many become sarcastic and defensive when talk of Texas secession comes up.
I don’t understand.

Hey if I remember my history, the south was making the country most of the money in 1860. Anyway, if the south succeeded now the north would freeze in the winter and lose most of their major military bases.

Its not only paranoia if it turns out to be true.

Red state like South Carolina will beg to be readmitted once reality sets in.

I don’t understand.

This scene from Ang Lee's "Ride with the Devil" explains the authoritarianism of Yankees and their statist progeny today.

Mr. Evans: You ever been to Lawrence KS young man?

Jack Bull Chiles: No, I reckon not Mr. Evans. I don't believe I'd be too welcome in Lawrence.

Mr. Evans: I didn't think so. Before this war began, my business took me there often. As I saw those northerners build that town, I witnessed the seeds of our destruction being sown.

Jack Bull Chiles: The foundin' of that town was truly the beginnin' of the Yankee invasion.

Mr. Evans: I'm not speakin' of numbers, nor even abolitionist trouble makin'. It was the schoolhouse. Before they built their church, even, they built that schoolhouse. And they let in every tailor's son... and every farmer's daughter in that country.

Jack Bull Chiles: Spellin' won't help you hold a plow any firmer. Or a gun either.

Mr. Evans: No, it won't Mr. Chiles. But my point is merely that they rounded every pup up into that schoolhouse because they fancied that everyone should think and talk the same free-thinkin' way they do with no regard to station, custom, propriety. And that is why they will win. Because they believe everyone should live and think just like them. And we shall lose because we don't care one way or another how they live. We just worry about ourselves.

Jack Bull Chiles: Are you sayin', sir, that we fight for nothin'?

Mr. Evans: Far from it, Mr. Chiles. You fight for everything that we ever had, as did my son. It's just that... we don't have it anymore.

It would be amusing to see the brain drain away from any state that seceded. Try operating colleges and universities in a place like Texas without the anti-secessionists who surely would leave if Texas were no longer part of the US. A significant portion of the middle-middle and upper-middle professional class in places like GA, FL and TX have Northern roots and would not stay around in any Confederate dejavu deal.

I think if they want to leave the union they should. I say shake their hand, wish them well and transfer the debt they owe to them. There is no need to waste lives fighting a war over south carolina or any other southern state.
Smart money is within a few years they will become like South Africa or some other bad South American national led by a dictaror economically banckrupt.
