This has two meanings
Does it , really? Becasue in the end, it's the same people doing the programming, controlling the messaging, whether they're in government or the big corporations.
I's all the same, regardless. Large faceless bureaucratic government or large faceless corporate media.
Both doors open up to the same destination.

Very well, my aoplogies. You’re right, semantic word games are normally useless so we can move on.
I think the point most are trying to make is that mass media in general goes out of it’s way to be overly politically correct. I think you can admit that there are probably more interacial couples than same sex couples. Or at least close to it. And if it is a same sex couple the male is normally portrayed as a bafoon or criminal. It’s no different than 60-70 years ago when black people were portrayed as idiots or criminals. It’s basically the new black face.
I mean I get it, most television advertisements are geared towards women. Women still dominate the consumer market by a large margin. Making the male look like he needs to be taken care of by his female partner who is grounded and intelligent makes women feel good about themselves because, lets be honest, women on average are emotional creatures who make decisions based on their emotions. I don’t really get the spike in the interacial stuff but whatever. Characters in a tv spot have never really affected my purchasing decisions.

There are plenty of black people in the world who use much harsher terms than "abnormal" in regards to interracial couples.
No doubt, black people carry much of the same sort of animosity towards interracial couples. It's not really a turnabout is fair play situation, more like a frick all of you type of thing.

Lol, the weekly melt threads about interracial relationships doesn't indicate undesirability or worry at all.
There's a difference between worrying about interracial relationships and worrying about, among other things, major corporations are seemingly over-representing interracial couples in commercials.
Forget interracial marriages for a second. What about Gillette's toxic masculinity commercial? M&M's commercial about mansplaining?
These sorts of conversations aren't about interracial marriages specifically, but woke corporations playing politics.

99% of the commercials on TV are the same way.
Wokeness..Wokeness.. Wokeness
They are all disgusting.

I pay little attention to commercials, I mostly laugh at the interracial melting threads. Interracial relationships are so common nowadays, walk down any street in most places and you'll see them. If it doesn't bother someone in person, why is a commercial triggering? It's a goofy reaction to a commonplace thing.
I stopped using Gillette when they went stupid just like I stopped watching the NFL when their messaging detracted from my enjoyment of the game. They're easy choices to make, don't watch commercials and/or don't buy the products these corporations offer. You have all the power as the consumer, use it.

I still don't understand how Jake from State Farm turned black.
If you want to market towards black people, why not just add "Cedrick from State Farm"?

Which is a conversation I'm willing/eager to have. But the interracial thing goes beyond that, with both super woke and anti woke types claiming to not have a problem with interracial relationships, then having a problem with either representation or crossing some magical overrepresentation threshold.
It's duplicitous.

I honestly think, in a vacuum, where major corporations, hollywood, sports leagues, music, social media, etc aren't being super political, this wouldn't even be a blip on the radar.
When Wesley Snipes was cast as Blade for the Blade movie series, I didn't give it a second thought. But because of woke politics during the past 5ish years, everytime I see a black female lead, I have to wonder if that's how things would have worked out in a world where gender and race really didn't matter. And I think a lot of people complaining in threads like this feel the same way.
Maybe I'm being too naive, maybe there are a lot of racists and sexists out there and I'm just missing it. But that's what I see.

I saw that one. Thought it was a carjacking

Did you also not find it odd when a woman was cast as Black Widow and a teenager as Peter Parker?

I didn't know Blade was a comic.
Still you get my point. Well, maybe you don't but most posters here will.

quote:It isn't the interracial couple that people have an issue with, it's that there is so much pandering and virtue signaling with these commercials. Apparently we have to be reprogrammed with every aspect of media. People get annoyed with that.
Seriously, why is this the trigger that seems to get so many folks here in such a melt?

The propaganda machine is really out of control! The latest new commercial is the Asian woman with the black husband. I believe everyone is equal, but that doesn't mean we have to like or mix with a particular race or ethnic group. I just don't understand why they keep pushing this agenda, because for most people I know, it is creating more anger and tension!
