Won't MORE ethanol make gas MORE expensive, not less?
Not in terms of price per gallon. But in terms of price per mile, definitely.

We are witnessing the beginning of a major centralization of our food supply. Biodiesel, ethanol, grain utilization for meat proteins, all part of effort to gain control of the food supply. The whole cows are evil and fake meat push isn't a coincidence. As well as the government allowed collusion between the packers. Sustainability mandates that will be rolled out and the forced forfeiture or lands are all being pushed right now.
Gates along with several others of his kind don't just own tons of AG land because it's a good investment. It will be a great investment, even at the dramatically high prices they are paying to outbid everyone.
He has even offered up some of his LA operation for a plan being pushed by the USDA to give land, paid for by tax dollars, to disenfranchised blacks. With mighty stipulations of course, which will lead to them turning it back over to the government.

I work in agribusiness consulting for a living. Soybean crushing is booming as soybean oil for renewable diesel is in high demand. Soybean meal is the other product produced in crushing and used almost exclusively for animal feed. Corn for ethanol will mostly be pulled from feed use and soybean meal will replace it.

So, just how far away we from Soylent Green?

Edible corn/inedible corn.
These guys crack me up,can tell they’ve never been anywhere near a farm.
Field corn is used for animal feed, corn meal, grits, corn flakes, etc.
Immature field corn when the husks are green is eaten as “roasting ears”.We used to eat it as corn on the cob.Maybe a little chewier than sweet corn but it was good.
They would be really shocked to learn where the gelatin in Jello comes from.

Besides the fact that most vehicles are not designed to be compatible with 15% ethanol, Ethanol produces 20% less energy than gasoline. So the more ethanol you mix with gasoline the worse your fuel efficiency / milage. The 15% ethanol policy is just hype and zero benefit

Higher knock resistance is one benefit of ethanol. If cars were optimized for ethanol you would see it run more efficiently.

Ethanol destroys engines, particularly loves fuel lines and whatnot on small engines.
Correct; I've slowly as they've shite the bed replaced my small engines with electric, except the mower but I only use non-ethanol.....same with the boat.

even if vehicles are optimized to run ethanol, they will still become less fuel efficient and make less power. There is no way around it. Ethanol requires a significantly higher volume of fuel to do the same work as gasoline

What is grown for ethanol is not edible corn.
So the corn isnt edible? or it is not grown for consumption? Because corn is edible no matter how you grow it

The likelihood is that farmers do not want to grow corn for ethanol because the cost of fertilizers is so much this year, and the fact that corn is one crop that requires the most.
They don't grow it for "ethanol".
Most farmers today are highly educated in business AND agriculture. Most of the farmers I've met (I used to sell chemicals to them) are much smarter than most of the engineers I know in fact.
When so called feed corn is grown in a farmers field; they have multiple options for the yield. Feeding their animals is usually an option. But it's all dependent on the price of each commodity at the time (and yes, there are futures pricing for pigs, steer, lamb, etc., etc.).
Another factor most of you are ignoring is crop rotation.
If you continuously grow either corn or soybeans, the soil suffers damaging consequences. Thus the reason you'll see the same field have corn a couple years in a row then switched over to soybeans the next couple years.
By far the most damaging thing to any farmers "bank" of soil is erosion though.

"It’s no welfare state."
Actually, it kinda is, but it subsidizes a few farmers and agri-biz folks at an enormous cost to the rest of us and even to the environment. Also, it's a stretch to term the "welfare state" a single government program. Regardless of how you define it, you're looking at dozens of government programs comprising the welfare state, some of which work better than others.

Which will then lead to a shortage of corn
Shortage of corn leads to higher prices
Which leads to higher gas prices.
If the price of corn for ethanol becomes too much, then stop putting ethanol in gasoline.

Ethanol is and always has been a losing proposition. Government subsidies and now forcing oil refiners to buy green credits is the reason it stills exists, it’s a fiscal money pot with little return on the dollar

It will also be a PR nightmare when we have kids starving in other parts of the world so we can put corn in our SUVs. Time for this scam to end.

I read years ago that ethanol is hydrophilic, so putting it in gas tanks in the Deep South in the ultra high humidity of the summer seems like a bad idea.

Every year 15 million tons of US farm grown produce never leave the property.
Of everything that does leave 40% is thrown away.
We'll be fine.
