His healthcare plan was to rename Obamacare.

which has increased costs 5 to 10 fold since inception as a plan PROMISED TO REDUCE HEALTHCARE COSTS

he was just waiting for:

costs to come down

wait so people could keep their plan and their doctor

no mystery

In hindsight it should def be shidtcanned and replaced

when Obamas weaponization of government is shitdcanned

moron

Ever know anybody that was self-employed or early retired and did not qualify for a govt stipend that tried to buy ObamaCare? Unaffordable...

Meanwhile if you were indigent you got it for free.

laughable misnomer, so too is "ObamaCare".

Obamacare is aptly named.

The original name of ACA had much more in common with the "Inflation Reduction Plan" since is was actually named "Affordable (health?) Care Act" that made everything more expensive for anyone who didn't get it for free.

An acquaintance of mine could only get insurance through a high-risk pool in Missouri and it was “unaffordable” for her. She was super excited for Obamacare. Then decided it was still unaffordable.

Except for the fact Obama didn't write a word of it, and contributed nothing but a signature. It's SchumerPelosiCare

But of course - these things are never the product of the POTUS.

I was referring to the inaccurate TITLE of the thing "affordable" care act

and Inflation "reduction" act.

He didn't have much of a healthcare plan, but he was the first "politician" to force the hospital systems to provide transparent pricing. It was a HUGE step in the right direction for knowing what we're actually paying for.

Wrong. Medical care isn't the same as buying groceries or buying merchandise. Free-market conditions don't apply when purchasing services that many wouldn't be able to afford, but everyone needs.

Not everyone needs a car, or a dinner for two at Manresa's, but anyone needs an appendectomy when the time comes, regardless of their financial status.

I can respect a lot of what he did in his life. However, he said dozens of times he wanted to repeal Obamacare. When given the chance to stick to his word he declined because he didn’t like Trump. That was not an admirable decision. He put personal pettiness above his country.

He probably was a better man than I. But this one decision was not a reason why.

Meh. There were 51 votes against it, it probably wouldn't have passed the house after amendments, and it had failed multiple times previously.

McCain's reasoning was fine:
quote:

"From the beginning, I have believed that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with a solution that increases competition, lowers costs, and improves care for the American people. The so-called 'skinny repeal' amendment the Senate voted on today would not accomplish those goals. While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacare's most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens. The Speaker's statement that the House would be 'willing' to go to conference does not ease my concern that this shell of a bill could be taken up and passed at any time."

And don't forget, McCain represented the people of Arizona, and they overwhelmingly didn’t want the shite Republicans were trying to push through just because Trump said he'd sign anything.

Yep. His would have made it a tie and it would have gone to Pence. He went back on his word because OMB. That decision was a poor one. Let his emotions control him. It’s ok to criticize him for that.

Republicans could have come up with a better bill. I blame them.
