I’m torn on this issue.
We built the damn thing…it’s of vital interest to national security and from what I read the Chinese are taking control of it.
That said, we gave it to Panama and taking it back would be a military intervention on a foreign country.

Carter should have never fricking let Panama have it.
If there are conditions/requirements of the deal that Panama isn't fulfilling, void it and take it the frick back.
There.

I hope Jimmah lives long enough to see us take it back. That moron should have never given it up. It's of major strategic value and that idiot just gave it away. We absolutely should use military force to take it back and tell the Chinese to pound sand if they don't like it.

We shouldn’t have given it away.

Without knowing the exact ins& outs of how Trump claims Panama is violating the treaty, this x1000 and it should be the only consideration.
With that said, I’m not particularly perturbed about Trump’s rhetoric.
Blowing hot-air has long been used by Trump as a negotiating tool.
A Firing Line Debate: Resolved: That the Senate Should Ratify the Proposed Panama Canal Treaties…

It won't come to any military action. Trump will use economic pressure to get what he wants.
I think it's great! China has been nosing around down there and Trump probably knows more about it than what he's saying.
The US should get discounted rates for using the canal, it wouldn't be there if we hadn't made it possible.
Trump is putting America First!

It was only built after a military intervention on a foreign country.

Think the US had naval vessels offshore Panama to “protect” American interests as the rebellion against Columbia went down. Again, they were there to protect, keep Columbia from interfering.

Correct, and there were (Marines) boots on the ground creating a blockade against Colombian reinforcements. Therefore due to our military intervention the PC was finally built.
Colombia's Senate backed out of the deal, and Roosevelt went with the "speak quietly, but carry a big stick" military approach instead of renegotiating.
Getting involved in foreign affairs to get what we need either diplomatically or militarily is just the American way. Not sure why people act (not saying you do) like it's not. Handled better, yes, but a part of what keeps us in power.

That's a gross understatement. China has been heavily increasing their presence all over South America for years and they're doing it in the open. Trump doesn't need a classified brief to know that.

Giving it up was a colossal mistake by Carter.
But there isn't much we can do about it now.

China has been increasing their presence and influence in Mexico and Central/South America. These countries have options beyond the USA now.

Now apply this to the middle east and let's see the 180s

Agree.
One of the issues with the Nicaraguan route was the volcano located near the proposed canal (postage stamp campaign). Just curious if the volcano would be an issue if that old canal route were revisited.
Or, could we make Panama the 52d state after Canada being 51.

And Greenland the 53rd.
Would be interesting if the Nic. route was looked at again. A bargaining chip against Panama not straightening itself out. I'm sure Trump will say something like "we got the bestest corp of engineers, so that volcano wont be an issue".

The lasting legacy of our 3rd worst President Jimmy Carter. Just think the lasting legacy of LBJ on this country the 2nd worst and I shudder to think of the the Biden related calamities that will plague us for generations if not be our outright downfall.
We built it - fricking seize it.
