It's war on China. When this is over with the relationship between China, and the rest of the world will be forever changed. No more tolerating the thievery and dishonesty and cheating that the Chinese have been doing for the last 20 years and more.

There are some other components I'm sure. I would bet my bottom dollar that Trump has already gotten an agreement from the key dozens of nations that they will rejigger their tariffs to make them balanced.

No his plan was to fund the government via tariffs and drop income taxes.

I know Japan is still working on things. But that would be a massive domino to fall and would encourage others to follow. The following is from two articles on NHK News:

quote:

The Japanese minister who will lead critical tariff talks with the US government says he will accelerate preparations to start negotiations in the United States as soon as possible.

Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei was appointed by Prime Minster Ishiba Shigeru as minister in charge of trade talks between the two countries.

The appointment came after Ishiba spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump on Monday over Washington's recently announced tariff measures.

The Trump administration has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on all auto imports. Japan will also face a 24 percent levy starting Wednesday as part of what Trump calls reciprocal tariffs.

Akazawa said Japan must overcome at all costs challenges that amount to a national crisis. He added that he will do his utmost to find the most effective options possible.

The minster indicated that he will set up a team under his leadership, mainly comprised of officials from the foreign, economy, trade and industry ministries, to analyze Washington's approaches.

Akazawa expressed hope that his team will visit the US as soon as possible to begin discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

The Japanese prime minister instructed all Cabinet ministers at the first meeting of a task force on Tuesday to make all-out diplomatic efforts to call on the US to reconsider the tariff measures.

Akazawa plans to gather bargaining chips in various fields from ministries and agencies to examine effective strategies.

quote:

Japan's chief negotiator on the new US tariffs says the government will do its utmost to assess the expected impact from the levies.

Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei met with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru on Wednesday, the day before a meeting of the government's Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy.

Akazawa later told reporters he believes the council members will discuss the tariffs regardless of whether the issue is set as a theme of the meeting. He said he will learn from a broad perspective about what business circles think of the US measure and how the government should respond.

Akazawa said state ministers and parliamentary vice-ministers of the trade ministry are hearing from people in the auto and other industries about anticipated impacts of the US reciprocal tariffs.

He said the government must do all it can to gather and analyze information, adding that he will deal with the matter with urgency.

The reality is that there are those who will applaud like idiots every time they perceive that Trump, and America, fail.

There are also those who will applaud like idiots over everything Trump says or does.

I’m onboard with the Trump agenda as a whole, but to think that his judgment is infallible is naive.

I don't think you understand how any of this works. He said tariffs were going to start. Countries are making meetings now coming to the table to renegotiate trade deals. Because of that he is pausing tariffs to show that hey if you are willing to work with us I am willing to work with you. That's how successful negotiations work.

How old are you? You are quite emotional it seems.

The one country we have to fix this with is China. He is boxing them in.

Looks like damn near every country couldn't hold out!! They are ready to negotiate. Do you keep tariffs going when a country says let's work this out?

Now, he rewards them for coming to the table.

Next, he works deals with each country on multiple fronts to better position the US, and it won't be just tariffs.

And, the final nail for China will be that part of these deals will be a united front against China.

If we make a deal with every other country, how does this bring manufacturing back to the US as promised?
