Since Sugar Cane is produced in Latin and South American countries, maybe an increased demand for sugar will give the deported illegals a place to work when we send them home.

Wouldn't increased sugarcane production be good for Louisiana?

Hasn’t Coca-Cola already said the whole switch story is bullshite?

Good friend of mine a very large cane farmer in Cenla and when I spoke to him about this he just laughed and said "bring it on, we can grow more cane than they can consume".

There are many of fields that have been yielded and they will all come back. Esp in the river parishes on airline. colonial sugar or LSR has already begun ramping up facilities and manufacturing to accommodate the demand. Domino is following. And Domino had another big refinery in New York off the Hudson.

Because muh… no illegals to work the farms now….

Not really. Acreage is the problem. They are maxed out.
SW Texas will have to ramp back up. Florida lost a shite tone of acres too.
Cane won't grow past a certain frost line in the USA.

There isn't enough acreage available in Louisiana.
You are a fricking idiot! Cane doesn't grow past Alexandria Louisiana. And... I'm being generous. Frost line and shite. You fricking dumb motherfricker.

Stop growing corn.
Grow sugarcane.
Problem solved.

Looks like FL LA HI are the only real places its grown. As someone who knows nothing about Louisiana sugar, does it command a premium compared to the typical sugar?
Hawaii no longer farms sugar cane. The last Hawaiian sugar plantation closed up shop in 2017, I think. It wasn't native to Hawaii, though it was introduced very early. The plantations that ended up booming in the 1800s reshaped the landscape of Hawaii, and not really for the better. In fact, the rise and fall of those plantations (and the fact that they were pretty much just abandoned by their corporate owners) is one of the big players in the eventual fires in Maui, and the fact that fire is now a part of the landscape in Hawaii when it really wasn't prior to the plantations. Outside of volcanic fires, Hawaii never had wildfire regimen, nor a wildfire problem.

LOL. You can't grow sugarcane where you grow corn. It probably needs very South Florida to do reasonably well.
Precisely why the Sugar Bowl is played in South Florida, oh wait…

Louisiana accounts for 40% of US sugar cane production.
They got them corn crops here too.

You will not see cane growing north of Ellick and even that is borderline. The snow/ice event a couple years back kicked butt on some of the cane fields around here.

If there is any kind of real volume, the US #16 sugar price will go to the stratosphere. We’re the second largest importer of sugar in the world, and we simply don’t have enough acres to support a huge increase in demand- this would also drive the #11 sugar price up globally- because world’s biggest economy and all that.
But, here’s what is going to happen:
Coke will market it as a specialty product, in the glass bottles and all, just like the Mexican Coke you get today.
It will be priced high as giraffe arse, but will be more readily available than the Mexican Coke.
Corn boys happy, Kennedy and Trump happy- “because look at what we did” Coke makes more $ because it will be cheaper to make (due to distribution) than the Mexican product and volume increase will likely reduce production costs vs. Mexico.
US sugar producers- cane and beet both will see a small bump in price.
Anyone who thinks we can ramp up cane and beet production (the end refined sugar is identical) is off their rocker.
Sugar has been a bright spot in commodities for a long time- if we could grow more in LA, FL, and the beet areas, we would.
Texas is done, no one else has the facilities to process it. LA and FL milling capacity is tapped out.
And, you can’t just go “build a mill” Last time I looked, it was over $300MM to build a new mill- outside of the US.

We subsidize domestic sugar because it's actually much cheaper to buy on the world market. We can get all the cane sugar we want from places like Brazil that is if Trump isn't tariffing them.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that Coke knows more about their supply chain than some local news station.
