Small government fiscal conservatives have been convinced by the government that they are about to get a new, shiny wall for free courtesy of Mexico. Well not at first, we foot the bill but Mexico is going to pay us back..!
If the wall keeps out illegals it pays for itself.
We pay 10s of billions giving social services to illegals every year.
BUILD the DAMN WALL 100 feet tall

This has to be the one of the dumbest ideas in American history...
Why? Because it hasn't been done before? I bet your same statement was uttered numerous times leading up to our independence from Great Britain. How did that turn out?

You said there would be a trade war. What is Mexico's leverage in a trade war? I ask honestly because I have not researched the issue. Is there something we need from Mexico that would give them leverage against the United States?
I'm open to changing my stance on this. As I am admittedly not well versed outside of reading Trumps plan.
There doesn't need to be leverage for a trade war, all that is required is international trade exists.
Let's say that we do as many say and tax remittances going back to Mexico (this isn't really trade admittedly) in order to pay for the wall. This hurts plenty of Mexicans so they put pressure on their government regarding. Mexico retaliates by putting an tariff on US cell phones being imported. All of a sudden it costs more for Apple and Microsoft cell phones for Mexicans so stop buying as many (Samsung is loving it though). To counter this the US puts a tariff up on tequila, making it more expensive so US women gravitate away from margaritas and toward daiquiris which hurts Mexican agave farmers. Mexico has to protect its farmers so it puts a tariff up on beef being imported from the US which hurts our cattle ranchers.
And on and on. These things can have unpredictable ripple effects across both economies, and is good for neither. These random industries (and consumers of their goods) are who pays the price, and ultimately who pays for the wall since recouping the cost of it is what started it.

I'd rather pay for a wall for the rest of my life vs pay for illegal families.

Of course you leave out all the savings we will build when we stop giving everyone half the money needed to run the country properly

Really?
As I posted in another thread, you are not hearing what is being clearly explained to you.
So let's try an analogy.
Two guys decide to make a bet. One happens to a millionaire. One is working class. So when discussion of betting stakes takes place, the millionaire says "Let's make the bet an even $10,000." The working class fellow is confident he'd win, but the stakes are so high he cannot risk it. So he backs out.
Like the working class fellow, Mexico simply cannot afford the trade war bet. It may not be fair, but the US can afford to take that bet. Mexico can't. There won't be a trade war because Mexico would be disproportionately devastated.
Mexicans know that. Their leaders know that. DJT knows that. Apparently the only folks who don't know that are unicorn and rainbow libs.

How much do you think the prison bill is for illegal criminals? Subsidies, education and health for poor immigrants? Nothing is free. Building up the Military will cost a ton; but not having one that deters attacks will be far more costly. Pay to play. Earth 2017.

If this weird election couldn't get any weirder, this board is convinced that they are about to get a free wall. And the frickin federal government of all people sold them on it, just front the money and then we'll get it back. Tariffs? Sure, no problem (just dont read the fine print about unintended consequences).
There is no free lunch. Don't trust the government. If it seems to good to be true, it is. Don't trust the government. Spending other people's money doesn't work. And most importantly, if they ever try to sell you on something saying it will be free, don't trust the government!
I don't care if we build the wall or not, and I absolutely think we have to enforce immigration laws and we need a secure border (a wall isn't really the fix though), but you're not getting something for free.
Realx, Your kunt lost and will never be POTUS. She's lucky she's not in Jail.
You know what no one expected Mexico to open their wallets and hand Trump cash to build the wall except for you whinny little bitches that need to soils you underwear and piss and moan about something since your godless queen of felonies has fallen.
There's a lot of ways Mexico can pay for this and they will have no choice. Like Cutting cash subsidies the US is sending to Mexico to import goods. The sugar industry is a prime example of that. Tax the shite out of every car auctioned off and transported back across the border to Mexico.

Agreed, not as dumb as this. We'll look back on this as one of the greatest blunders of our time. No doubt in my mind.
The way this wall is being peddled reminds me of Simpsons and the monorail.

Frankly, I don't care who pays for it. 14-25 billion is worth it and a drop in the bucket compared to the billions spent on silliness. A project like this is one of the few duties constitutionally given to the federal government.
Maybe if we found the 6 billion Hillary's state department lost we could get a great head start.
