It creates the perception that Biden cares for struggling families when in actuality he's just buying them off. You know the ole "Vote for me and my guy and I'll throw you a bone" routine.

Oldest trick in the book. The ancient Romans learned this trick ages ago. Before the gladiator games started, the "benevolent" emperor ordered that wagons laden with loaves of bread should circle inside the stadium and the loaves thrown to the crowd in the stands. You know the equivalent of bobbing heads and koozies today.

So where's my loaf of bread?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

If $1400 is all it takes to move out of poverty, why haven't all the poor people done it with their EITC tax refunds?

Pure propaganda. 1400 bucks won’t last more than a couple of months for most people.

I agree completely. $1400 means nothing. If all the pork was eliminated the taxpayers could give $10,000. That would make a difference.

A couple? That shite isn’t going to last a month. Hopefully multiple people at WallStreetBets put that money to fricking over the system again.

They’re not retards, they’re just blatant and evil liars. We should never let the people at Google forget that their initial motto was “Don’t be evil”.

The stimulus is good for the people and businesses that need it. The problem is that people who kept their jobs because of COVID will start to rely on it. These are people that have jobs and kids not the people who already live in poverty. It is not “sharply cutting poverty”.

The stimulus is a short term fix. It will cause problems for some families in the lower middle.

The federal poverty level is $17,420 for a house with 2 adults. $1400 dollars does mean shite when it comes to people in poverty, but stimulus alone is not going to help people get out of poverty. It is not “sharply cutting poverty”.The hope is that it helps families from going into poverty.

$2800 is just over a 6th of the poverty level annual income.

The stimulus check they got last year and the new one is around 1/3 of their annual income.

Almost double monthly disability and lowest social security.
$1,400 also to prisoners and illegal aliens
Another $300/week unemployment to August tax free up to $10,200
Child - 1 to 6 is $350/mo + 7 to 18 $250/mo cash if not enough for tax credit
$350 Billion to broke states and cities
$150 Billion to schools that are already flush with cash from earlier hand outs
$100 Billion + more to restaurants
$50 Billlion + more to airlines
The numbers are staggering

Inflation is going to raise this poverty line over the next few years too. It’s completely insane how full of shite WaPo is

Agreed. There can’t be to many people that read the WaPo believe this.

Even liberals have to know this is BS. Especially the ones that live in poverty.

China gets stimulated with the Covid bill or the $1400. Yes the same people that tried to kill us off with Covid. The $1400 will be used to buy shite Made in China. Smart phones, TV's and electronics. Better off buying a gun made in the USA.

There are 350 MILLION of us in the country. The democrats piss away BILLIONS to Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea, not to mention others who profit from us. Dems started the gifts to other countries because they don't want deal with those they fear. And this includes the Rhinos and winos in the republican party. You can see that 350 Million is a drop in the bucket compared to the money wasted on other countries who would rather see us die. So why not take every person in this country and give us a million each if they really are trying to help us first?

Wait, would this stimulus even be a thing without Trump calling for $2k checks?

Just for the record, I do not approve of Trump nor Biden. I also have been disagreeing with stimulus payments since Bush did them.
