Military- yes vital. Salute to my veterans.
Park rangers. Our national parks and museums are nice.
Other than that, I can’t think of one industry that the Feds have sunk their tentacles in that would not be bette off in the private sector.
Some examples:
Postage and package delivery- USPS sucks arse. Losses billions. FedEx, UPS, Amazon so much better
Air traffic controllers- With the new AI advanced tech another industry that needs the human element removed. No more strikes, bloated benefits, risk of some psycho having a bad day and crashing a plane in purpose. Automation for this industry seems like a no brainer.

Our military is a woke joke now. The left has ruined it.

Re: Air traffic. We have the govt FAA. A lot of countries don't have one. They work fine without the federal agency.

Doesn’t NVIDIA have a chip to replace these people?

Hell no to this one - once we go down the road of replacing humans with AI, we are screwed. AI is the first tech revolution that will only replace humans, it will not produce new industry. 100% against this form of tech integration. I have a feeling the big auto makers are going to be the first to go down this road though, due to union demands. Those union workers are firing themselves right now.

The one area government deserves a bit of credit and never gets it.
There's probably one area where government needs to move in and replace the private sector - prisons. Private prisons are predicated on being full to make money. Bad, unconstitutional incentive.

EPA may have gotten out of control but it was absolutely needed at the time it was created.

The federal gov't should be reduced by 90%.

It really not a shutdown. It's never been a shutdown. At most it's just a partial pause.

Military: Disagree. Whereas private industry can't really do the military, large parts of it could be returned to the States. Maybe then we could stay out of foreign wars (like we did before the War between the States), and maybe then we wouldn't have a military that can't balance its own checkbook and can't find half of the equipment it's supposed to have. States should have some rights, at least in an undeclared war, not to support military adventurism.
Why do we need a Navy that can defend Persian Gulf shipping from Iran? We don't. Europe needs that so we write the checks and will spill the blood. We have enough oil to be self sufficient. We could spend hundreds of billions less if we would simply act in our own best interests.
Park Rangers: Let the states control the parks. The whole national park and world heritage site and monument racket is one more way the Executive branch is expanding its powers on the road to a dictatorship. One man and a bunch of bureaucrats were not supposed to have this much power.

SEC - Federal laws governing public companies need federal oversight and the SEC, while it has its flaws, is easily the gold standard worldwide.
FDA - Also has its flaws but is no doubt the gold standard globally as well and can't have industry funding safety and efficacy oversight.

Don't forget about healthcare. The VA which provides excellent healthcare for our veterans for free and Medicare which provides excellent healthcare for our seniors at a fraction of the cost of private insurance because it is not trying to make a profit.
Just kidding

They would probably be nicer, and for less money, if we privatized their operation.

I lived in Singapore for 4 years. I've traveled there countless times.
It's at least one place on Earth where I truly believe government works better than private enterprise, and that's saying something. Government offices are clean, professional, and efficient, and taxes are relatively low.
There's a reason there was a traveling exhibit several years ago called "2 Thousand Singapores", making the case that 8 billion people should be able to live in 2 million cities as well run as Singapore.

It needs citizens to join and private industry to sell them weapons. They buy that with our tax money.
Back in the day your average farmer had better weaponry than the soldier.

The military kills people and breaks things very well. It does nothing else well though IMO. The entirety of the rest of the public sector doesn’t really do anything well except employ people.
