Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley last week introduced a proposal to establish a federal job guarantee, a national program that would provide work for every American who wants it.

Under the proposal, the federal government would fund employment opportunities for everyone who could not find work within the private sector.

The cost of federal job programs could quickly spiral out of control

Businesses would go under if they had to compete with the government for workers
Because government does not need to worry about profits or operating efficiently

Apparently we voted for this insanity. They probably consider the gulags success stories in that jobs were made available for all.

Paying people to dig ditches is better than paying them to sit at home.

There are very few people of able mind and body in this country that couldn't get a job if they don't want one.

I do feel for people in small towns across America. For example, the town near my parents in North Louisiana is a true dead end for poor, young people. I honestly wouldn't mind them having an opportunity for something at all.

But then again, what jobs could you create there? There is literally nothing to do, and you can't just make them up out of thin air and expect it to be productive.

Yes but just your first job. They should make everyone go in the military at 18 years old for two years and pay them. Then get a fricking job or go to school on GI bill of some type.

Ok. Im ok with this. Get rid of welfare and give them a job. If you want it, there it is. If you don't want it, no money for you.

I totally agree.

But small percentages of persons affected by the alleged harm never stops the left from screwing up things in a way that will adversely affect a much larger percentage of previously unaffected people.

This I support. It needs to be a REPLACEMENT for unemployment. Instead of just getting your check each week to catch up on the soaps, you go build roads or something. During the depression, that was the point of the TVA and similar works programs. And the pay needs to be LOW, to encourage folks to continue seeking private sector employment.

That said, everything they are spewing is straight USSR type stuff. A professor at LSU once told my class that the lure of communism is "freedom". Instead of the "freedom TO" that we have historically enjoyed (that is being trampled currently), they have "freedom FROM".

Freedom from unemployment vs. freedom to choose your own career.

Freedom from homelessness vs. freedom to live where you want.

Freedom from being without money (aka guaranteed income) vs. freedom to succeed and profit from your hard work.

I'll pick freedom TO every day of the year.

I trust my private sector job much more than I trust the federal government. I mean, thousands of times more.

I'll just leave it there.

As long as all of our production is outsourced overseas there will be no jobs in small town America. But small town America isn't what America is worried about right now. America is worried about Little Timmy being able to cut off his pecker at 12 years old and go to the girls bathroom.

If there is a job that is worth paying someone, it’s guaranteed the private sector would have already created it.

I believe Russia guarantees everybody a job...

The difference between the US and Russia, is that Capitalism allows anyone to achieve more than they could have otherwise.

Communism, your are locked into certain work strata based on aptitude with no opportunity for growth.

Plus, a government big enough to give you a job is big enough to take it away.

There are already enough jobs for every American.

Problem is, a big portion of Americans suck arse.

My hometown is about 80% comprised of a certain race that has issues with employment.

We just planted hundreds of acres of pine trees, like many people do in that part of the state. None of those workers were...local.

Houses and buildings being built EVERYWHERE right now, and umm... the workers, well, they didn't attend the local high school.

Lawn care companies fill up the gas stations every morning around here. As far as I can tell, pretty much everybody has the letter Z in their last name.

Tech companies moving here and staffing like crazy. Minorities are desired! Uh, just the kind from India and Pakistan.

Been to a drive thru lately? Hard to understand the person taking your order? Have you been inside? Those folks heard a different version of the Alamo growing up than you or I did.

If we could get a handle our our immigration issues, then there would be jobs for every American, plus immigrants.

Problem is, Americans are too goddamn lazy to process meat, do agricultural work, etc etc... for what it pays. They think they should get paid white collar wages for menial tasks. They also won't do the MINIMUM to get thru high school and get a FREE college education to get PREFERENCE for hiring at a company that is literally IMPORTING white collar labor at wages these poor minorities can't even imagine.

It is frustrating to see $100k jobs pay $50k to some Indian, but $50k is more than some black kid from south Georgia could earn in a decade of sitting on their arse in between 5 jobs every year.

Which definition would you prefer?

Are they getting compensated for work done? I consider that to be included in the word "job".

Or were you just looking for any reason to post one of the world's most overused meme?

Also I didn't "use" the word job. You did. I quoted you. So this has been an incredibly entertaining example of self-owning.

Everything old is new again.

Didn’t they try this shite in the 60s and 70s with Humphrey-Hawkins and other measures?
