I loathe “influencers”. Always have and always will. They bring nothing to the table other than tailored messages for their braindead followers to repost. They are part of the dumbing down of the country as people foolishly take their bullshite as gospel.

The last election was decided by a very small margin across the nation.
Let's see, you geniuses went after fed workers - 10m people. That's way more than necessary to give Congress to the Dems.

Now's it's SNAP, which is somewhere around 41m people. Oh, and there are income limits for SNAP. A lot of people make money and get SNAP, so they're paying taxes. I wonder what would happen if they voted on what their tax dollars could cover for you.

Maybe next week you can go after social security - 73m people.
Then Medicare - 65m
Then Medicaid - 79m

Tackle all of the voting blocks. If you're going to hand Dems the midterms, go all the way.

No it wasn't.

Oh no...SNAP folks won't be able to buy soda...oh no!

How many of those folks do you really think are going to change their voting habits because of this? If they voted Dem/Repub before they will again. Same goes for fed workers...they all voted Dem before anyway.

If you are going after waste/fraud/abuse/morbid obesity, go all the way.

Damn PUSUS2024.

The topic is food stamps though, so how do you feel about your tax dollars being used as corporate welfare?

As evidenced by what soda companies are doing here, a significant portion of their sales & profits come through SNAP.

At the same time, SNAP subsidizes the labor model of multiple corporations by allowing them to pay non-livable wages (or not provide full time hours), and have they government make up the difference.

Finally, since recipients don’t have to pay for food, they can use their cash on cell phones and other non-necessities, where corporate America once again makes more profits.

The fact that Big Soda hires protesters is a bit surprising, but that’s part of a different topic regarding astroturfing and the funding behind it. Its a manipulation of democracy, far worse than random tweets by Russian bots.

But lets not get distracted from the main topic. The government trying to control free choice by taxing soda is a different issue than welfare (small w) in the form of Food Stamps being allowed for unhealthy food stuffs, especially in an era when obesity is a huge problem for individuals and the country as a whole.

If my sister and her three kids need help with rent and food, I’m opening my wallet. If they are fat and lazy, and I see that they used my money to buy candy, chips and coke, I’m not going to keep giving them cash, I’m gonna bring healthy groceries to the house.

Well if we didn’t bail out companies and people lost their jobs, I would also say, well you can’t buy soda on food stamps.

And you forgot one more thing, we subsidized their sugary drinks and then pay for their healthcare.

So big medical wins too.

They do. The FTC already has disclosure requirements in place for social media influencers, they are just ignoring those rules.

You can believe that sodas shouldn't be covered under SNAP while also being against size restrictions or sin taxes on said beverages.

Influencers = spokesmen

Once you understand that, it all makes sense.

Following an influencer is no different than following a corporate social media account

I realize people are making a lot of money with this but haven't most people with half a brain been made aware of the scam?
