On a more serious note, this is beyond outrageous - but it always is with left wing degenerates. I'd have to fall on the sword on that one. Maybe I'm more prideful than others but there's no way in hell I'd ever put "he/him" on anything. It's like kissing the CEO's arse, I can never do it.

although, IMO, an absence would mean "just the traditional ones," but then I guess the HR department would feel like having people who prefer different pronouns announce them makes them stand out or something...

Jobs are you putting up with bullshite for money, by definition.

I would ask Human Resources, not a message board. Or maybe the ACLU.

People put that on resumes?

It's a fair point. While I am foreign, I was born here & my name is very identifiably "American" male.

John Doe, he/him/noshit

The reason I believe there's a movement for the gender pronouns is not to identify male vs female ... Put more to pay respects to 0.1% of the population who choose to misappropriate a gender they were not born.

It's not a consistent message. Cultural misappropriation/gender misappropriation

I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine Cali state law would make it tough to fire someone.

The issue usually isn't getting fired though, it's them making your work life unimaginably difficult and trying to make you quit.

You're right to try and carefully navigate this.

Depends who you work for. I work in CA and I plan to ignore the silly order. Fortunately, I report directly to the CEO and he is a Trumpster. I'll be OK.
Last year, my boss got in trouble with UC Berkeley when he referred to me as the best girl he ever hired during a conference call. We didn't get the contract for the project.

Geez, this is exactly why we have to have equal opportunity employment laws. You can't say we don't need these laws when you turn them down for those very same reasons. I thought the laws were a little over the top and didn't happen these days, but I guess I was nieve.

I've noticed a few people around our company adding them to their email signatures as well.

I'm not going to do it until I'm forced to.

Instead of putting "Mr., he, him", etc... put "Exalted Master" and "Ethereal Emperor".

The confusion it creates among the practitioners of identity politics would be hysterical.

you managed to land in the one place that probably has most of that small percentage, and certainly will pay respects to them...

It has nothing to do with gender.

I don't want that poison in the workplace.

Yes. But, be sure to change them on a daily basis. It’s fluid, after all. Also, be sure to call anyone out who misgenders you that day. Really put the spurs to ‘em.

Honestly, I don't hire people and don't understand what you go through.
I can understand looking for things that can raise a red flag for causing issues in the work place but I don't see how you can judge a person based on something so insignificant like that.

Sounds like a hostile work environment. You should get an attorney.

The jazz hands thing cracked me up.
Horrible.

My work “requires” the same thing re: pronouns—on just about everything (door plaques on our offices, email signatures, business cards, course syllabi, etc.).
I’m in academia.
I refuse to do it.
My approach has been to ignore the directive until I’m “called in.”

At that point I’ll share my rationale as to why I believe it my right not to use pronouns as much as it’s the right of others to use them.

I’ve thought about being obnoxious and going with something like, “Dr. EKG (it),” or “Dr. EKG (tough cookie),” but that’s just stirring the hornets’ nest.

God help us all.
