Dude, dont even attempt to give me a lesson on classifications. I know exactly how it works, just like I know at the Exec level, like Brennan, he still had access to any file in which he was party to prior to leaving his office. So, anything he had access to prior to leaving office, he could technically still have access to and could leak.
I maintained my security clearance after I retired for a period of 5 years and I still had access to classified information because of my involvement in the gathering and/or disposition of that material and the fact that I had to testify twice concerning the material.
So, it is not simply as cut and dried as "he left the building" and he "no longer has access".

How does having the clearance benefit him then?
And in these days when the “ruling class” (including current and former IC) doesn’t seem to care about breaking the law, I’d rather have as much of a buffer as possible between them and classified intel.

Yeah, I agree with you that it is petty. I would let them keep their clearance in case he needs some Trumped up evidence for collusion against his enemies, opponents or adversaries. These people seem to be the ones you need for that.
