That video is a like a train wreck, you want to look away but can't. I am embarrassed for him and despise him at the same time.

Sharpton gained notoriety as a child preacher. You can find a video of him delivering sermons at the age of 7 or 8. He's not stupid. His extemporaneous responses in the Dem primary debates were much better than any other candidate.
His problem is simple... He cannot read and he has a very limited vocabulary. Teleprompters are no good if you can't read.
I've seen this before. There was a Principal of a Middle School in Caddo Parish who had a degree from Grambling. He was totally illiterate. While in college he got other students to write down what he dictated orally.
He was not stupid. He simply never learned to read. He was eventually found out and demoted to a desk job at central office.
