ok, karl marx. so there is an endless supply of architects, money, material and time for every project so the beach hotels should all be made of gilded gold & sapphires and look like the taj mahal.

Fundamentally, private property adjusts to what people truly value with their own resources on the line. Those who find “unfettered” capitalist architecture abhorrent are free to demonstrate their values with their own resources. I don’t necessarily disagree with people’s criticisms of the aesthetics of modern architecture, but how egocentric does one have to be to demand their values be expressed with public funding, which is what the criticism of “capitalistic” architecture would seem to entail.

And I cannot think of too many city center areas in the U.S. (at least larger cities) that I would hold up as having very pleasant designs.

Whether that's true or not (we are talking about something subjective here), it has nothing to do with capitalism. Capitalism can produce cubes or castles; it will produce whatever people want.

What a cop out answer. Yes or no, do you support the government regulating private platforms like Facebook?

Also I don’t understand why you’re so god damn rattled by my posts. Literally just trying to have a conversation about why American architecture mostly sucks arse.

What country is producing modern architecture that meets your approval?

No idea. I can tell you that in all the American cities I travel to though, the most interesting buildings are almost always government buildings. Baton Rouge and the old and new state capitals are perfect examples of that. DC another great example.

Not trying to argue that market economies are not superior to planned ones.

I'd rather see private businesses, in an attempt to save money, build those sorts of structures than a government mandate that only those sorts of structures can be built because we're all equal and individuality is bad, comrade.

i guess all those old euro-designs beholden to architectural styles from the 1500s are so much better than us.

How is he wrong?

Note: He never said medieval castles were produced by capitalism, just that capitalism produces what people want (which could be anything, yes even castles).

Typically when someone says something is "bad" (or ugly or a host of other adjectives), a context is offered. If I say that grocery stores suck it just means I don't like grocery stores. If I say that Publix grocery stores suck, there's an unspoken implication that another grocery store chain is doing a much better job than Publix.

No, but you're apparently trying to argue that the architecture that you don't care for is some inherent byproduct of capitalism. I suspect that you just don't care for modern commercial architecture at all but you're not familiar with anywhere but American cities.

In any event. all of these houses were built in a free market capitalist society. There may be commercial buildings just as detailed, but I'm not an expert in the field. I only know about this site because my wife has it on her Instagram feed.

that worked out SO WELL for gab didn't it? (note: has gab been added to the SPLC list of Hate Groups yet?)

BIG_SLIM - internet is MUH PRIVATE COMPANY so start your own internet if you want free speech.

Form over function, cheapest materials possible, quickest construction time possible. Add it all together and you get the desolate landscapes found in the majority of our nation’s smaller cities.

Communist nations do the same thing.

If building something great didn’t require so much red tape and have to jump through hoops with local officials having their hand out combined with labor costs due to unions being out the roof, then better architecture could be afforded.

Most of the worlds greatest architecture was built with Slave Labor. That’s what made it so great, cost wasn’t a problem

There is no middle ground when it comes to socialism. It’s like if someone asked you if you wanted your body 0% consumed with cancer or 100% consumed with cancer and you think 25% consumed by cancer is the perfect balance.

Any amount of socialism = going in the wrong direction. And it’s proponents will never be satisfied. They will want to expand it...inch by inch if they have to.

What a band of nutsacks they are.

They honestly believe all of their creature comforts will remain EXACTLY AS THEY ARE if things sway towards the most oppressive, failed political system in modern history.

This is how utterly STUPID these vermin really are.
