What a cop out answer. Yes or no, do you support the government regulating “private”platforms like Facebook?

Umm.. Facebook is not “private” anymore. It’s public.

If building something great didn’t require so much red tape and have to jump through hoops with local officials having their hand out combined with labor costs due to unions being out the roof, then better architecture could be afforded.

big_slim might want to check out that 'brutal capitalist architecture' in hong kong sometime that was built in the era of 'zero red tape' and unfettered capitalism

I can tell you that in all the American cities I travel to though, the most interesting buildings are almost always government buildings. Baton Rouge and the old and new state capitals are perfect examples of that. DC another great example.

Ah so you’re overarching point in this thread that capitalism will ALWAYS meet demand just doesn’t apply when it comes to the internet? It seems to me there should be sufficient demand from conservatives like yourself to make alternatives to liberal platforms like Facebook and Twitter viable. And please feel free to explain what the first amendment of the constitution has to do with privately owned businesses regulating behavior on their platforms

Are you saying there are some areas of the market where the barriers to entry are so high that, dare I say it, government intervention may actually be necessary AND beneficial?

Say it ain’t so CAD!!! Don’t make me add you to your list of free market but but but supporters!

Im fine with a lower standard of living and paying more for things, yes. Weve never been more technologically advanced or more materially wealthy but also never more fat, unhealthy, depressed, drug addicted, suicidal, or spiritually dead and miserable in general. Coincidence? Not everything is about money.

In any event. all of these houses were built in a free market capitalist society. There may be commercial buildings just as detailed, but I'm not an expert in the field. I only know about this site because my wife has it on her Instagram feed.

Solid post. I admit my initial post was a gross oversimplification, but I still do believe there is a lot of value in civic projects funded by the state for the purpose of glorifying a city and highlighting its culture and heritage, and that some of the most beautiful buildings in the world would have never been built through the mechanism of the free market alone.

You’re a lot more reasonable than that ole doucheCAD.

Oatmeal, broccoli, cabbage, eggs, whole chickens and bananas are amongst the cheapest things in the super market.

You can eat healthy cheaply. Anyone who says differently is a boldfaced liar.

Use your words and explain how Facebook is not a publicly traded company.

And being such, is not subject to more government scrutiny than other publicly held companies.

Also continue to use those words to explain how Facebook still enjoys the anonymity of private held corporations.

you're such a hack.

these companies exist solely due to crony capitalism made in backroom deals with congressmen (from both sides of the aisle) and bear little resemblance to actual capitalism built out on a government-run platform formed by the military and higher ed.

but then you know this; you're just being dishonest because you think you somehow have me in a 'gotcha'.

i bet you love comcast too huh? WOW! MUCH ORGANIC GROWTH! SO FREE MARKET!

show me again how these tech giants pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps and not through crony capitalism and maybe..maybe..you'll 'GET ME'!

Any amount of socialism = going in the wrong direction. And it’s proponents will never be satisfied. They will want to expand it...inch by inch if they have to.

Yep. When something inevitably goes wrong they will try to "reform" which will just give more power to the government. This will happen again and again until the government controls 100% of everything.

The dumbest thing you can believe is that giving more power to government gets you closer to this fictional utopia.

Pretty much every single socialist in the US passionately believes in this utopian idea and believe its attainable if just the right dictators are in charge. Nothing will ever be perfect, ever. Theres no such thing as perfect income distribution, theres no such thing as a perfect educational institution, perfect healthcare system.

These people BELIEVE there is such a thing and they will try to obtain it BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Do you really need me to explain the difference between private and public sectors of the economy, and how publicly traded companies fall in the private sector?

I can do so. The problem is I can't understand the concept for you, and I think that is where your issue lies.

It’s hilarious the mental gymnastics you’ll go throw just so you can sleep at night believing the free market is absolutely infallible without any regard for nuance whatsoever.
