Serious question, why does every President need a Library made and named after them?

Biden coming up short on Donors isn’t surprising but made me think of why all these Presidents need to have some $200 million dollar library?
I mean WTF.
If you have private donors that get you to your goal fine, but seriously can’t this kind of money be used for something more important?
Not suggesting Libraries aren’t important but how many do we need in DC?
Just seems absurd.

And what happens if we last a thousand years? Will we have so many Presidential libraries that the continent starts sinking beneath the weight of them?

I think they're meant to serve as a record and museum, to commemorate and celebrate each presidency, and as a resource for researchers, with all the 'papers' and records from the presidency stored there. Up until Obama's boondoggle, they were relatively modest undertakings.

There are a lot of papers that are historically relevant and probably should be preserved. They don't have to be housed in gaudy, ostentatious facilities but humble people don't run for high office.

It's an interesting place to store Presidential memorabilia. Usually in the home state of said president.
I think obamas will be all digital... but I imagine it'd be neat to visit a real one and see things. Point of pride for the president's home state, too.

Well if they spread them out that’s a good plan, but damn $200 million a pop on average or whatever seems more like another way to launder or steal Donor funding to me.
