Republican and Catholic here, I could give a damn about gays or lesbian marrying.

Oh you may not care about them and your lifestyle. But you can damn sure bet they care about you and your family's lifestyle. As they said, "they are coming for you, and your kids". Good luck holding on to that non profit status for your church. Good luck to Jack the baker, and the Christian with the wedding venue who refuses homosexuality marriage services.

You may not be interested in them. But they are damn interested in you.

All of them should’ve voted with the Dems on this. WGAF? Two consenting adults are entering into a legal contract with each other

Why shouldn’t this be protected?

I personally don’t care about what anyone does in their private life as long as it doesn’t negatively effect me or anyone I care about. Do whatever the hell you want to do in your private life, just don’t bring me into it or broadcast it for everyone to see. Private should remain private.

On the face this benefits Republicans more than Democrats. It takes away the argument that you must vote D or the Rs will ban gay marriage. Like another poster said, what else did they slip into the bill?

This is pointless. The Supreme Court has already ruled on the issue.

They ruled on abortion too.

Wrongly.

And it was overturned.

They also ruled wrongly on gay marriage.

A pointless virtue signal bill. Gives the illusion that they're doing shite while they're not actually doing anything.

Would be like advancing a bill that says the fed gov can't use nuclear weapons against any state.

Or a bill that protects the right for women to vote.

1. Republicans should know that marriage should have always remained a state issue.

2. This concern is now one of religious liberty. There are certainly antireligious groups out there that are salivating at the chance to inflict damage on religious institutions with previous court rulings...now that attack will be bolstered by federal law.

3. Homosexuals previously complained about an unfair system which only allowed some to be married to the person they loved. Well, now we're actually seeing this bifurcated system come to fruition as marriage has been taken hostage by secular forces. Bona fide ministers in some states no longer have the authority to marry people. Secularizing marriage in these states is meant to protect the ministers from lawsuits, but separating religion from the act of marrying is only further harming the already battered institution of marriage.

4. Anthony Kennedy was right about one thing: he compared same sex marriage to being on a ship in uncharted waters. He asked, "Are we headed for smooth sailing or a waterfall?" He, and the GOP supporters of this kind of non-republican legislation, will be long dead before we find out.

ETA: 5. To those who say "what goes on in private is their own business." Marriage is not a private contract or institution. It is a public agreement which must be solemnized in a setting where more than just the two sexual partners are present. Why? Because marriage matters to a society...it has to every society in every culture in human history.

Exactly what does this issue have to do with customs and border protection, national defense, foreign treaties, or the regulation of interstate commerce?

This is not true. It harms the souls of those unfortunates who are united in a lie. Gays and lesbians cannot get married because marriage was meant from the outset to be between a one man and one woman. Anything else is heterodox to the natural order and therefore a sin against God.

Christians need to sack up and join headlong in the culture war. Because if they don't, things are just going to get a lot worse. Once you normalize the unnatural, you open up society to other more sinister evils such as what is going on with our kids and the trans movement.
