Good to hear!

They (all brands) aren't made like they use to that's sure.

If you're looking for cost and just an introduction to having a shotgun, i'd do a remington 870, mossberg 500, or the savage 320.

all wieldable, pump, holds more than one or two rounds, fires reliably, good to get used to firing, and shouldn't run you much more than $300.

not to knock anybody else's gun choices, but i've shamed people with $1k+ benellis, browning, etc. with a $300 R870 express i got from walmart while dove hunting or skeet shooting. not a compliment to my skills (i'm mediocre with a shotgun at best,) more of a mocking of their waste of money and lack of talent.

You need a pistol. No offense, but you sound like someone who would be rather easy to disarm from a shotgun (more to grab).

Get a .357 Magnum. No frills, no jamming and the best stopping power of any round.

Yeah I have an old .22 rifle. I got laughed at on the Outdoor Board. So I added a 9mm pistol and this weekend I’m buying a shotgun.

I have a Mossberg 500 12 gauge but I am thinking about buying a .410 auto loader if anyone makes one. I haven't looked yet.

I once hunted with a club owned Silver Pigeon.

Didn’t notice anything special other than beautiful craftsmanship.

Savage is a great shotgun and a shotgun is easy to use, easy to load, ammo is cheap, and you don’t want to be on the wrong end of it.

A Beretta m9 22 cal is a high quality handgun that is good for beginners. You can also use 22 cal ammo for a 22 rifle. Two birds, one stone kind of thing. Once you are experienced on the 22 you can step up to the Beretta 9mm.

i'm not knocking for a second having a nice gun. i have a beautiful 70 year old .22 that's in pristine shape with a buttstock loading mechanism. one of a kind type of gun.

Shotguns are going to be point and pull. you can't buy yourself into being a better shot with a shotgun, but i'd say you can with a pistol or rifle. i'm just saying for home defense, get cheap and reliable.

I bought a Mossberg 3 weeks ago. I had a Savage as a kid and it performed great. I think that you might get a slightly better deal with a Mossberg. I went to buy the AR-15 today and they were all gone, as were a WHOLE LOT of the guns that he had the other day. I wouldn't wait long

Anyone know how to take the plug out of a shotgun so I can load more ammo?

It’s a trade-off to the vulnerabilities of being disarmed. OP sounds like he’ll wait until they’re right up on him, so the “walls” argument is moot.

I bought one of The Ruger Red Hawk 8 shot .357s just for the hell of it. I thought I was gonna keep it in my truck, that lasted about 3 weeks, I put it in the safe and haven't looked at it since. Damn thing would make a great boat anchor.

I’m agreeing with you.

I have a 1976 Winchester 12 gauge. Old reliable. Still smooth as hell

My dad probably got it at the local hardware store back in the day.

Don't do that, it's just asking for trouble. If something would happen to where you had to use it, they'll take the weapon for evidence. You don't want a Federal Firearms Charge hanging around your neck.
