Without reading the other responses, a shotgun is definitely a good choice for anyone, especially someone not accustomed to shooting.

Handguns don’t work in real life like they do in the movies. It takes a lot of practice to be effective with a handgun at the range, much less in a super stressful situation.

Buy a shotgun and if you want a handgun to carry in your vehicle or something, buy it and go to the range and practice.

No one needs to buy a handgun for their first home defense weapon.

Maverick 88 18 inch 12 gauge. A solid 100.00 shotgun for home defense.

I was wondering if anybody could give me a reason to not go with this setup.

I’m not seeing it for 100.00, though. More like 200.00.

Autmatic or pump? There used to be a plug with a spring where you load your shells.Taking the plug out allows you to put 5 shells in instead of 3. Keep the gun out of the reach of kids and be familiar with the safety. An empty gun won't save you. But it the perfect weapn for short range. just point the gun at your target and pull the trigger. Hold the butt tight against your shoulder before firing. I pray you never have to use it.

Even Winchester pump guns are made in China. Always check the barrel.
