This is a twofer for the Left.

It's a payoff to the Teachers Union who despise Home Schooling because it trespasses on their monopoly, hence cutting the Education Dollars funnelled to them by the State, and weakens their political clout and

allows the State to beat down any parents that are unhappy with the current Public School Syster. Thus protecting their control over the lives of both parents and students.

I agree. The McGuffey reader taught reading at a much greater level of proficiency than a current average classroom and there's nothing to the McGuffey reader.

I even said that parents are the experts on their children; however, sometimes the emotional aspects of a child-parent relationship may cloud the teacher-student relationship.

Most of it is not rocket science; discrete skills are built through direct instruction with repetition and reinforcement. It becomes considerably more difficult when there are underlying disabilities or skill deficits. For example, are parents taught how to identify and differentiate between deficits in specific reading skills, then provide interventions to address these deficits? Even if some teachers aren't able to, they have resources and other specialists (e.g., literacy specialists, school psychologists, etc.) that can do this. Parents who are homeschooling their students do not have that so readily available.

Overall, teaching the the average to above average student, is not particularly difficult; teaching to the below average student or a student with a disability is not so easy.

I don't actually believe this; in fact, I would imagine much of the government's involvement impedes maximum learning. My argument is that teachers with a standard of training and qualifications, will be more likely to posses skills than someone who has no training. That doesn't mean there aren't excellent individuals providing homeschooling; it's just that more practice and training will be associated with better instructional techniques.

I'm not advocating for any control over parents' choices, but I am recognizing the potential drawbacks to homeschooling compared to a traditional setting (i.e., public and private schools).

The M/Th rule is actually more of a guideline...

That was an exceptionally rough Tuesday and I had to bust out #EvilHomeschooler to restore order. Not proud of it

Man, we'll see if we got anything for 'em. We seem to always lose the big conference games at a Kyle lately I have no expectations, but hoping for the best!

Good luck to LSU as well against UF this weekend

It just bothers me that most people think that homeschooling is only done by religious nuts.

Homeschooling is done properly can be much more effective than traditional schooling. The things that are accomplished in a traditional 8hr school day can be completed in a fraction of the time with a 1 on 1 approach.

There are plenty of homeschool groups for support and social interaction so that is not really an issue.

C'mon Home schooling is done by religious nuts of course. But... I think it's more done by those who don't want their kids to mix with other races, religions, economic classes. It would be a travesty if little Joey found out other people are people also. Can't let little Pin head to think different than mom and dads brainwashing

Jeebus. He shot most of them in a freaking closet. A CLOSET! That's not exactly a challenge.

Oh. And it wasn't 22 kill shots. One of the child victims had 11 gunshot wounds.

So yeah, he was a real marksman that Lanza guy!! It's almost impossible to believe a person can hit children cowering in a closet from close range.

There are 4 home schooled kids on my street. 2 are of Indian descent and 2 are black.

Wow! You are incredibly small minded and have not looked at the homeschooling movement in the last 10 years. We belong to a group of about 20 families and these things you suggest have zero to do with our decision to homeschool. We desire that our kids be Classically Educated so we do it ourselves. There are plenty of white flight public schools in our area if we cared about the crap you suggest we care about. You are a narrow minded individual that accuses others of narrow mindedness. Nothing more.

Jeauxbleaux is right, most people consider homeschooling because of the demographics of their public school systems.

However it seems pretty rough to send little Joey to a public school/holding institution so he can learn about the depravity and disfunction of his "peers". I guess you could call that education.

Much of the educated middle and working class is stuck in a trap, they can't afford to send their children to private schools and they can't afford to send their children to public schools.
