It will get awful cold in Russia this winter without power plants. Sometimes the best defense, is the real threat of a good offense.

There’s certainly language in the U.S.-Ukraine Charter on Strategic Partnership that sounds like we promised to defend them.
It’s vague but it certainly sounds like we committed to protecting their security.

Did we give Ukraine some weapons?

Quote the passage you’re referring to, because nothing in there requires US military intervention or a military defense of Ukraine by the US.
“Cooperation” and “support” and “partnering” is nothing more than selling them weapons and giving them tech. Or sanctioning Russia. But nothing at all related to actual military support on the ground.
That agreement is as toothless and meaningless as the Budapest Memo (and to be fair, 99% of all diplomatic treaties). These agreements with Ukraine are very similar in wording and effect to those we have with Taiwan. We are not bound by treaty to defend either with military force.

It didn’t say it requires military intervention. I said it sounds like we committed to protecting their security, whatever that may be construed as.
As noted, the language is vague.

Here is all I see:

Bolstering Ukraine’s ability to defend itself
quote:
United States and Ukraine intend to continue a range of substantive measures
quote:
United States intends to support
quote:
United States remains committed to assisting Ukraine with ongoing defense and security reforms

United States remains committed to enhancing Ukraine’s ability to secure and police its borders
quote:
United States and Ukraine are committed to further developing their partnership
Point being, I don't know where people get the idea that we obligated ourselves to defend Ukraine, but we haven't.

This is why you don't give up your nuclear weapons.

Dems must be terrified of what Russia might uncover in Ukraine.

Even if they had kept the Soviet weapons that they had, Ukraine had no ability to service or replace them once their useful life expired. Ukraine never had any nuclear program of its own. IIRC they didn't even have full capability to actually use the ones they had.
They'd be useless in this current conflict, even as a deterrent.

And I support that. None of our business
Other major governments and militaries gaining more land through this means is EVERYONE's business.
I guess you're ok with China claiming Taiwan, Japan, terraforming in the pacific for more reach, essentially owning Australia and New Zealand, and on and on?
Every time someone just says "fk you i'm going to kill you if you don't surrender to us" for no apparent reason except they feel entitled to claim that land, it is a problem for everyone.
If you allow it to continue, obviously they will continue to push and gain more ground and absorb more countries.
How is that not obvious?

The activists want to get rid of borders so they are okay with less
They have no sense of how human nature works. That’s why Marxism/socialists always fail in the end. They completely ignore the human condition and human nature and try to force feed their ideologies on people that don’t want it. Constantly trying to overturn thousands of years of tradition and culture

And how many soldiers does Russia normally have in the region.
They have called up reservists from the Far East and have been moving troops and equipment at night probably to avoid detection. I believe that there is a good chance that Putin invades this time. I have been hearing late January early February for a month. Putin told the Russian military one year ago to get ready. He and Medvedev have been conditioning the Russian population for this for awhile. When Russia shot that satellite down a couple of weeks ago this was a clear warning to the US not to provide Ukraine with satellite intelligence or else. Putin is basically absorbing Belarus back into Russia. Russia has worked on getting former Soviet Republics (Stan countries)back into fold. Putin is out to set up Novorossiya. He has stated that Russia will never leave the Donbass region. It is stated that Russia has as many as 14 combat divisions in that region already. Ukraine better get ready. We have sent anti tank missiles to Ukraine and there has been talk of providing them with hand held anti-aircraft stingers.

Biden should just send in the Taliban division of the Army.
I mean they're right there. It's a simple logistics decision.

Hey Joe & Hunter extorted millions from you, but here, enjoy these jet skis, er, military patrol boats. Better clean up your Ukrainian and learn to speak that proper Russkie.
