However choices are predetermined though some mechanism, whether philological, genetic, epigenetic, etc., etc or combination of. You were born with the propensity to choose women and not choose men.

If a man can self identify as a woman, can't he self identify as a gay?

Or a lesbian in man's body?

Or another race?

Or a dog or cat?

There seems to be limitless choices.

What a time to be alive!

Human sexuality is not as iron clad from an early age into adulthood as we may think. It becomes far more rigid as we turn older, but earlier on, it's more pliant and impressionable.

of course

but choice implies we can control it

if we can't control the factors in regards to our sexuality, is it a choice?

Yeah, I don't choose to not like french fries. I just like them. But I can choose not to eat them.

I recall those old debates here about the existence of free will.

Good times.

Well, Catholic Church doctrine is that being gay is not a sin. But if you commit the sex act with a man then it is. But that was back in the 50s. It's probably OK now.

Ugh....reduction ad absurdum

Equating sexuality and behavioral choices that are injurious and not consensual is silliness.

To be honest, I don't even CARE if homosexuality is a "choice". If it is between two CONSENTING adults (or, close in age young people - think HS sweethearts)...I have ZERO issue with where people get their orgasms.

If happiness is mushing like genitalia into one another... MUSH AWAY!

When I choose not to eat them it's usually because I'm on a healthy eating kick.

for the vast majority of people, this is correct

we have very little control about how our lives will turn out, most of us will live within the same class that we were born into, live in the same area, have the same beliefs as our parents, etc

the point is that if its an identity then it is discrimination, if its a choice then it is not discrimination

Justice Kennedy is saying that you are not gay until, "being gay' is a course of action choice".

So you can think of gay sex but until you make the choice to participate in gay sex you are not gay.

I think...
