Whoever think Trump & Co aren't planning ahead is crazy.
If Trump gets China out of Iran without a ground war and us out of NATO he will be doing Gods work.

What about this operation leads you to think we are doing this?
Rebuilding Iran seema like the perfect way for China to get even more influence in Iran post-war. They are experts in using infrastructure building as a means to gain leverage over countries

Just try to square this with Ukraine, which was an op we didn't object to officially (but caused years of melts no theme). Imagine under Biden if Germany wanted to force us to use our bases over our objection and Biden permitted it. The melt would have been MASSIVE. These people have no intellectual consistency
Sure, but let’s be practical.
They need us far more than we need them. We’re the 800lb gorilla yet we do not necessarily get the benefit of that outsized contribution. If they don’t help when we want to do something, there is no real need to be in the significant capacity we currently participate.

I think we get the most benefits from this. Pax Americana is required for the worldwide economy to go, and we benefit most from that economy.
We pull out of NATAO and reduce the power of PA, transaction costs are going to rise and I imagine, although I could be wrong, this costs us more long-term.

The time of NATO has passed, all it is now is a funnel for US taxpayer money to protect countries that wouldn't do the same for us.

Almost none of them have even met the 2% of GDP spending that was agreed on back in 2007, no chance they ever come close to the even higher numbers Trump got them to go with
Europeans don’t deserve to be allies with us, they are incapable of defending themselves. The US shouldn’t have to beg them to not use Huawei, or let us refuel planes in their countries

All of the contrarians ignore the fact that the only reason there is a France, Germany, and UK is because we assisted in actions we weren't consulted on. We also cleaned up France's mess in south east Asia and Britain's in the Levant and South America. We checked Soviet power. They owe us quite a bit.

Pushing away our closest and richest allies just means they will get closer to China, which makes the second part of the quoted language funny.
If this Iran war ends up with Iran and Europe both closer to China, that's one of the worst international relations strategies in centuries. Add in how tariffs are doing this also and it raises so many questions.
We can't support our economy relying on poor countries like Venezuela and El Salvador

I said IF.
No positive objectives have yet been accomplished in Iran.

I was just pointing out that, while that is a common goal in the rotation used in the Art of the Deal marketing strategy online, it isn't likely. Similar to regime change. Nobody has articulated a strategy that wouldn't lead to a stronger Iran-China relationship following this war, similar to how they didn't propose a viable strategy for regime change (and I use past tense b/c it seems regime change is a dead avenue now).

And NATO is a defensive alliance and this was an act of US aggression
Iran has been stirring up shite for decades, using their proxies to commit terrorism and kill Americans. This was not an unprovoked act of aggression. We cannot allow Iran to get nukes, we cannot allow the terrorism they sponsor to continue.

I did not use the word "unprovoked". You added that
It was, nonetheless, an act of US aggression. NATO is therefore not obligated to help us.

We did delay that, but we did that last year and had to come back in like 9 months. It is going to keep on occurring.

Trump attempting unilateral withdrawal from NATO would be entering one of the most consequential separation-of-powers disputes in modern U.S. history, therefore, 'there's never been anything like it.", meaning it's an almost certainty that Trump will do it.

Same screwing as the one way tariffs that persisted for years. Other countries love the US when they’re benefiting and not reciprocating.
