It certainly helped that he was kept in check by Newt Gingrich and a GOP Congress with some balls. That same GOP Congress seems as staunchly opposed to Trump’s agenda as they were Clinton’s.

One of trump’s biggest supporters and advocates for his agenda, especially on tariffs and trade.

American Exceptionalism did.

You are talking about when the state pretends to be the people.

I said nothing of the sort.

Trump is just basically Clinton Dem.
Clinton was all politics. Trump is all pragmatism.

But aside from that small, small, small, small detail, "Trump is just basically Clinton."

I am referencing the peoples' result.

Address this in terms of American Exceptionalism.

Third, his terminology begs the question ... what made the 20th Century the "American century"?

But to answer your question - the people did.

What made the 20th century the "American century" was winning 2 world wars and outspending the soviets in the cold war.

By the end of the century, we were the only standing superpower due to 2 things loathed by libertarians - war and spending. If libertarians were in charge, America would be just another country instead of sitting on the top.

"The people" is a very generic answer that can be applied to everything.

Why did Naziism take over Germany? The people.

Why is Somalia a shithole? The people.

Why does America have welfare? The people elected representatives who made it so.

Nazi Germany happened bc of war and inflation.

Somali went from a corrupt emperor to a socialist regime with no say from the common man.
