If you didn't know his age, you wouldn't have guessed he was in his 70s at all. Unless they make him swim with the fishes, the nomination is set.

I don’t see how one can praise and promote the idea that Desantis is such a staunch conservative, the most conservative this country has seen in a long time in fact, and simultaneously propose that he also has a very strong capability of converting leftist voters into Desantis voters. It doesn’t seem to reconcile at all.
Ever heard of Reagan democrats?

You probably weren’t even aware that Reagan was first a Democrat before he switched to Republican. Not that that diminishes the esteem in which I hold him, but there’s usually something in existence out there that tends to throw a little water on such bold assertions.
And as Reagan often said, “I didn’t leave the Democrat party. The Democrat Party left me.” Reagan was always a conservative. There was a time when conservatives were split between the two parties.

Sure, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to use that concept as a reference point for an assertion that Desantis is an “historic” level conservative as he’s been described. My overall point is that it’s not as simple as throwing out a brief sentence or two proclaiming Desantis the ultimate conservative.

I’m not a fan of having to argue against Ronald Reagan here, but again nothing is so simply settled. Governor Reagan signed legislation into law in California easing access to abortions. But although changing one’s position on various matters is derided by some amongst us, it’s a very commendable note in his “file” in history that his views on the subject evolved over time.

Although he wound up handling the question well…notice the forced bending to “he lost the election, say it Ron”. Such a classic liberal move - you must accept my premise to continue this discussion.
Trump has destroyed the weak minded by the tens of millions.....Maher too is a victim.
Maher could be interviewing an extraterrestrial being and 5 minutes into the interview Maher would be asking the alien visitor if it believed Trump lost the 2020 GE.

I've yet to see a criticism of Ron with merit.
I've seen some fair concerns and have voiced one or two, but they're rare here. Here the guy who's dad installed friggin cable boxes and had to take odd jobs to pay for college is deep state establishment. The New Yorker who went to a private boarding school and was made president of daddy's company three years after he graduated is just one of the guys.
Clown world indeed.

You said that Ron is better in one on one settings than Don is which means he has a better understanding of issues than Don does.
It doesn't mean that at all. Does he have a more intellectual understanding of many issues surrounding management of the government owing to his background? I'm sure he does. Does Trump have an instinctual ability to manage things like economic output and foreign policy negotiations that is better than anyone we've had in the White House in a very long time? I'd say so.
Neither of those are necessarily negatives for the other... any candidate is going to have strengths and weaknesses, areas where someone agrees and disagrees.

Who are you going to vote for?
In the primary? Given Mississippi's place on the primary calendar, it doesn't really matter. There will only be one viable candidate left by the time it comes to us.

The average person values competence and reasoning more than anything else. They want to be able to go to work, take care of their kids and not have to think is the idiot in charge going to screw up my life.
To sample an analogy from a comedian- it’s like leaving your kids with your parents. Most people feel like they can leave their kids with their parents and don’t have to worry that their children will be hurt or maimed or worse when they come back to pick up their kids. They want to leave this country with their parents and go about their day.
Hence why he won an election in a purple state in wipe out fashion vs a former governor.

You think that's just here? Have you listened to Clay and Buck when they're taking calls discussing the primary? That's a huge share of the electorate.
As I said, perception is reality, and DeSantis comes off poorly with his overall persona when campaigning. It isn't my opinion, polls show it everywhere. Is it fair? No, but I already addressed that in my first post

Ron is spot on about how to handle respiratory viruses. I really hope Trump appoints him to head up the task force if there is ever another pandemic.

I find it funny that if any criticism is leveled towards DTJ on here the default is to juxtapose/attack Ron. It seems as if only DTJ fanatics take the lead from….. welll, DTJ. I mean, it’s as if they emulate the persona of DTJ to a T! DJT is so successful, he is depending on morons like you to support his legal defense fund. Make sure you get your donation in to MAGA!

No, your point was that if a conservative gets dems to vote for them then they can't be a real conservative. I provided an example that disproves your point and you pivoted.

No, you missed my original point, and now we’re angling towards being on wholly different wavelengths. So this may be as far as we can take it

Some people on the Left may have different ideological or policy views, but may find attractive his competence. It doesn’t have to be a majority, doesn’t even have to be a large plurality, but he can chip away at democrats and especially independents in swing states by running on that message.

That pretty much died with Trump and the MAGA movement. Trump was the final mail in the coffin to Falwell and Reagan’s morale majority. It’s now a vulgar, profanity laced showman that doesn’t put less spending, smaller government at the forefront of his platform. Those principles will probably return in the post-MAGA era, but it’s effectively dead for now.

Haha, despite the plastic surgery, hair dye and spray tan, he definitely comes across as in his 70s now. And he’s clearly lost a step versus 2015-2016. You’re delusional.
