Am I missing the punchline there? I don’t get it, the comedian part.

I don’t disrespect your positions on the subject, but I believe that what you’re describing there is the ideal conservative worldview with the “competence and reasoning” references, and that’s certainly not an unwelcome worldview in my book. But we’re talking about luring leftist voters here. I don’t think they share that worldview. They value attention getting “hits” on the most “popular” issues, usually the ones that they’re advised by leftist pundits to key in on. Abortion and such. Keeping various government programs in place that the “far right extremist Republicans” would end with the snap of a finger, out of pure meanness. Going fully green before the world comes to an end next month. You get the point. It’s those issues that I don’t see reconciliation on, between the acclaimed deeply conservative Desantis, and leftists as described above. There’s a vast gulf between the two camps, and I just don’t see how the gap is bridged.

Now of course there is always the traditional moderates who could for all intents and purposes be either a Republican or a Democrat on any given day, “swing voters” as it were, and they’re always game. But folks who proactively identify as “leftists” of whatever label, Democrats obviously, but probably more accurately described as liberals…I just don’t see it happening.
