How does Perfy explain wanting to close the department that he now wants to lead? This is the one pick that's baffling as frick.

Perry could be a total disaster...he really has no idea what the job entails...oil/gas isn't a big part of it.

I understand it is a lot of nuclear, both power and military, but that could all be set up under a nuclear commission of some sort, possibly under the military purview.

Simple and I would have no problem doing this.
I inform the Senate Committee that I would seek Congressional approval to move many of the functions to other Cabinet departments or independent agencies (e.g. move the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to DoD) or eliminate them completely. Once done, I would resign my position.
If they really don't want the swamp drained, they can always vote no, and I move on.

We already have a Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
I think Rick Perry's original ideal to eliminate the Dept. of Energy is correct. Maybe Trump is sending him in to tear it apart.

Personally, I think that has been the strategy all along. Ben Carson for HUD? What in the hell does he know about HUD? As a conservative person he wants to close it.
Perry? He wants to close his dep't.
Sec of Ed? She wants to do away with common core and I wouldnt be suprised if she stripped the dep't down (as it should be.
